Regional Indigenous Development Coordinator, Petty Officer Jade Delaporte leads a discussion during National Reconciliation Week 2026 held at the Yarning Circle, Victoria.

National Reconciliation Week (NRW) 2026 takes place from 27 May to 3 June and recognises the importance of building respectful relationships between First Nations peoples and non-Indigenous Australians.

The week marks two significant milestones in Australia's reconciliation journey: the 1967 Referendum and the High Court Mabo decision. This year's theme, 'All In', is a call for shared responsibility and practical action. NRW 2026 coincides with the release of the Defence First Nations Commitment, which sets out Defence's long-term, enterprise-wide approach to strengthening outcomes for First Nations peoples across employment, inclusion, wellbeing and economic empowerment.

The Commitment aligns with national priorities, including Closing the Gap, and supports Defence capability and culture objectives.

ADF Catering Operator Course 270 has graduated from HMAS Cerberus, with the ceremony held alongside our training partner Chisholm TAFE, at their Frankston Campus.

This course embraced “Little Italy” an Italian-inspired theme, a celebration of the rich diversity our people bring to Defence. Just as every Italian dish begins with tradition and story, our members carry their heritage and experiences into every posting, deployment, and mission.

We were honoured to welcome Air Commodore Suzie Barns as guest presenter, who also awarded the Student of Merit to ACW Liana Alley. Chisholm Chef Antonella Bell presented to AC/W Trimble with a Certificate of Excellence.

Congratulations to our newest Catering Operators for achieving their Certificate III in Commercial Cookery, ready to take the next step in their Defence careers.
