🚨 Did you notice a few extra SES vehicles around Culcairn over the long weekend? 🚨

Don’t worry — there was no emergency! We were there for a very important reason. 💪🧡

The Culcairn SES Unit had the pleasure of hosting SES members from across NSW for a three-day intensive Cross Cut Chainsaw Course. 🌳🪚

Members travelled from Wagga Wagga, Albury, Deniliquin, Moama, Mathoura, Bathurst, Corowa and Ulladulla to come together, learn, instruct and sharpen their skills in the safe and correct use of chainsaws.

And the result? 👏

We now have even more nationally accredited chainsaw operators ready to respond when our communities need them most — whether it's during floods, storms or tsunamis, the three core areas of responsibility for the NSW SES.

A huge thank you to everyone who travelled to Culcairn, shared their knowledge and gave up their long weekend to build these important skills. 🧡

Want to make a difference in your community?

There’s a place for everyone in the NSW State Emergency Service — you don't need to be a chainsaw expert! 😉 There are plenty of different roles and ways you can get involved.

Or send us a message through this page and we’ll be happy to help you find out more.

🧡 There really is a job for everyone in the SES! 🧡

Attention Jindera residents.

Sandbags are available for collection from the Council depot. Crews are attending jobs as quickly as possible but there are a large number already in the queue.

Please avoid driving on the road unless absolutely necessary

From our friends the Rural Firies ... The Bush Fire Danger Period for our area (Greater Hume LGA) starts on the 1st of November, but that doesn't mean fires can't be dangerous before hand.

Be careful, be informed, and stay safe,

Today marks the official start of the bush fire season, with the Bush Fire Danger Period beginning in most NSW Local Government Areas.

If you’re planning on conducting a burn, you’ll require a fire permit from your local Fire Control Centre or brigade. Fire permits help ensure fire is used safely and reduces the danger to you, your property and the community.

Residents and land holders must know the rules when it comes to the use of fire. Along with having the required fire permits, you need to notify your local fire authority and neighbours of your intent to burn at least 24 hours in advance.

For more information on the Bush Fire Danger Period and requirements around safe burning, visit our website: www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/BFDP
