Fresh look for Coffin Bay icon!

Twenty new interpretive signs featuring flora and fauna, the oyster industry and Nauo cultural heritage are creating a refreshed and engaging experience for locals and visitors exploring the popular Coffin Bay Oyster Walk.

Short educational videos accessible via QR code are also being produced for select signs as another chance to learn and connect.

The project has been made possible through a strong partnership between Council and the Coffin Bay Tourist Association with a working group also consisting of representatives from Nauo Aboriginal Corporation, Lower Eyre Coastcare Association, Eyrelab and SA Oyster Growers Association.

Funds from Council, CBTA and Nauo complemented grant funding from the SA Tourism Commission’s Experience Nature Tourism Fund.

This has been a fantastic community-led project that will help ensure the Oyster Walk continues to be a welcoming, informative and meaningful experience for years to come.

Thank you to all involved!

Bushfire Season is Approaching 🔥

Now is the time to prepare your property and help keep our communities safe.

Lower Eyre Council's Fire Prevention Officer will commence annual fire prevention inspections across township areas from 1 October 2026. Inspections help identify properties that may require works to reduce fire risks ahead of the bushfire season.

Take action now by:
• Slashing or mowing long grass and w**ds
• Removing excess vegetation and combustible materials
• Clearing around homes, sheds and buildings
• Maintaining access to your property

Small actions today can make a big difference tomorrow.

W**d Watch: Bridal Veil Detected on Lower Eyre Peninsula

It’s great to see so much green around the region at the moment, but not all green growth is welcome.

Bridal Veil is a highly aggressive invasive w**d that can smother native vegetation and spread rapidly. Recent sightings have been recorded in:
• Tulka
• Coffin Bay
• Tiatukia

Bridal Veil can look very similar to Bridal Creeper, but has slightly different leaves. With the recent rainfall, now is the perfect time to keep an eye out for it on your property and while out and about.

If you spot Bridal Veil, early control is important. Please contact your local Landscape Officer for advice on identification and control options.

For further information, please check out the following fact sheet: https://bit.ly/EP-bridal-veil

🌱It’s wonderful to see so much green around Eyre Peninsula at the moment… but there are some green plants that are not so nice.

❌Bridal veil is a highly aggressive and invasive w**d that can smother native plants. With plenty of rain already this winter, it will be starting to show up at previously infested areas and could be popping up in new locations.

👀Please keep an eye out for it, especially on lower EP where the most known sites are. If it’s on your property, it’s best to control it as soon as possible. Please speak to your local Landscape Officer for advice on your best options for control.
