🚢⚓ TRAINING EXCELLENCE AT MARINE RESCUE CURRUMBIN ⚓🚢
This weekend our team got serious about safety — and we loved every minute of it! 🔥🌊
Our trainee Coxswains tackled the Shipboard Safety modules as part of the Certificate II in Maritime Operations—specifically Coxswain Grade 1 (MAR20321) —is an entry-level, industry-recognised qualification. It serves as a mandatory stepping stone toward achieving your Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) Certificate of Competency.
🔥 Firefighting — real techniques, real equipment, at our training base on the Creek
🛟 Survival at Sea — immersive training splashing about in the creek and enjoying the cosiness of the liferafts
⚠️ Safe Working Practices — because how you work matters as much as what you do
🚤 Survival Craft — knowing what to do when it counts most
These aren't just certificates on a wall. This is nationally recognised training (units MARF060, MARF028, MARF029 & MARF030) that qualifies our people to crew small commercial vessels — such as those operated by MRQ units all the way along the Queensland coastline.
A huge shoutout to our Unit Training Coordinator Michael McMahon for leading the day with such dedication, and to trainers Nicole and Paul for their brilliant assistance — backed by our loveable American import Shaughn Ryan and members of our Unit Executive Leadership Team. The professionalism and passion on show today is exactly what makes this unit special. 👏

đź’ˇ Thinking about volunteering with Marine Rescue Queensland?
This is what we do — we don't just show up when someone needs rescuing. We train hard, build real maritime skills, and an opportunity to develop genuine careers on the water. Whether you're drawn to the sea, want nationally accredited qualifications, or simply want to give back to your coastal community, there's a place for you here.
We'll be holding an information session is late July to take on the next round of volunteers at Currumbin. Best way to stay informed is to follow our page.. 🌊🤙
