BUSH FIRE DANGER PERIOD- SNOWY MONARO LGA- COMMENCING THURSDAY 1ST OCTOBER, 2026.
FIRE PERMITS REQUIRED.
The Bush Fire Danger Period will commence at midnight tonight, Thursday 1st October, 2026, in the Snowy Monaro LGA and continue until 31st March, 2027.
From midnight tonight, a fire permit is required for all fires in the open (with the exception of cooking & small recreational fires).
With continuing dry conditions across the district their is a significant risk of fires readily igniting and travelling through the landscape.
We are calling on all members of the community to assist in keeping our community safe from fire over the coming months by taking all care to stop fire ignitions.
Some ways you can help are:
- Ensuring any cooking/recreational fires are fully extinguished (using water) before leaving unattended.
- Do not undertake hot works (welding/grinding) in the open during the hotter, windier times of the day.
- Do not undertake slashing or mowing during the hotter, windier times of the day.
- Avoid driving any vehicles in areas of dry grass during the hotter, windier times of the day.
- Maintain your vehicles, mowers and equipment ensuring there is no build up of dry grasses in areas that could cause them to catch fire.

Just a reminder that as of this Thursday, 1 October the Bush Fire Danger Period commences.
All burns will require a permit from the RFS.

BURN NOTIFICATIONS SUSPENDED – Sunday 20th September 2026
The Snowy Monaro is forecast to experience HIGH fire danger conditions on Sunday 20th September 2026. As a result, all burn notifications issued by the RFS have been suspended.
These conditions can create a real fire risk across our landscape, if you have been burning please check your previous burns.
ONE EMBER CAN END IT - Embers from a fire can spread quickly and quite a distance, putting communities well away from the main fire at risk.

πŸ”₯ GET READY DALGETY β€” BUSH FIRE SEASON IS COMING πŸ”₯

As the weather starts to warm up, now is the time for all of us to start getting our properties ready for the coming bush fire season.

A little preparation now can make a big difference when conditions become hot, dry and windy.

🏑 Around your home and property:
β€’ Clear leaves, bark and other debris from gutters and around buildings
β€’ Keep grass short and maintain areas around your home
β€’ Trim overhanging trees and shrubs
β€’ Move firewood, timber and other combustible materials away from buildings
β€’ Check hoses, pumps and water supplies are working
β€’ Make sure firefighters can access your property and water sources
β€’ Check that your property number is clearly visible from the road

πŸ”₯ Most importantly β€” have a Bush Fire Survival Plan.

Know what you and your family will do if a fire threatens Dalgety. Decide your triggers for leaving, where you will go, what you will take and what you will do if your original plan isn't possible.

Don't wait until there's smoke in the air to start thinking about it.

πŸš’ Dalgety RFS is getting ready too.

Our volunteers will be checking equipment, undertaking training and preparing for the season ahead β€” and we'd love to see some new faces join us.

You don't need previous firefighting experience. There are many ways you can contribute to your local brigade, both on and off the fireground.

Prepare your property. Make your plan. Know your risk.

Dalgety crews were called out to a small grass fire this afternoon on Snowy River Way which was extinguished by the quick actions of the landowner and did the right thing by calling 000.

Dalgety Crews spent time ensuring it was blacked out with water to prevent re-ignition, as well as a good inspection through our thermal camera.

It’s a good reminder of how quick African Lovegrass can get away from you in very short amount of time.

Yesterday was the first fire call since the last fire season.

This fire brought asset protection, bush, rocks and grasslands all into one. Thankfully everything was saved and crews managed to get this little one under control quickly.

Thanks to Berridale, Numbla vale and Wollondibby Brigades for their support.
