Over the last four days, police took part in a state-wide road policing operation, targeting road users who were making decisions to place others or themselves at risk.
Within Greater Dandenong, Casey and Cardinia, police detected numerous offences which included:
- 23 drug drivers
- 20 drink drivers
- 223 speeding drivers
- 11 seatbelt offences
- 25 drivers using mobile phones
Fortunately no lives were lost on our roads within those areas, however police did record 7 serious injury collisions. The causes for these collisions ranged from speeding drivers, impaired driving and disobeying traffic control signals.
Whilst the majority of road users were driving appropriately, it is clear that there are still many who want to disregard the law. So you can expect no changes when it comes to Victoria Police’s commitment to road safety.

Complacency is a prevalent issue on our roads and contrary to some driver’s attitudes, this photo is the reality that can face those who are distracted, impaired or make a decision to speed.
This long-weekend, Operation Regal will be focused on state-wide by police, taking strong action against drivers who choose to disregard the safety of others or themselves on our roads.
Especially with winter now here, all road users are expected to drive to the conditions, taking into consideration safe breaking distances and speeds on wet roads.
Highway Patrol would like to wish everyone a safe and happy long weekend. We‘d much rather see you arrive safely at your destination than meet you on the side of the road.
