Workforce Australia Local Jobs - Darwin and Alice Springs Local Jobs is funded by the Australian Government, Department of Employment and Workplace Relations.

The Local Jobs Program supports tailored approaches to accelerate reskilling, upskilling, and employment pathways in 51 employment regions across Australia, supporting Australia's economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. Each employment region will be managed by an Employment Facilitator, who is a dedicated individual who works to connect local job seekers in specific regions with training, job opportunities, and other support. As part of their role, Employment Facilitators chair the Local Jobs and Skills Taskforce and work with local stakeholders including employers, employment services providers, and training organisations to drive the development of a Local Jobs Plan. Kicking off October Business Month with a bang!

๐ŸšŒ Learning through experience is an important step in building a confident local workforce.

Last Friday, participants in the Larrakia Cultural Centre Launch into Work initiative took part in a cultural excursion to Crocosaurus Cove Darwin, where they explored the stories behind the Northern Territory's iconic wildlife and experienced how engaging visitor experiences are delivered.

The excursion forms part of the three-week intensive training program preparing participants for employment at the Larrakia Cultural Centre, opening in August 2026. Through practical, hands-on learning, participants are building the knowledge, confidence and customer service skills needed for roles in tourism, hospitality, retail and cultural hosting.

A special thank you to the Crocosaurus Cove team and the Larrakia Cultural Centreral Centre representatives, Valentin Corchado, Emma Nesbitt and Joe Raymond for supporting the day and sharing their expertise. The enthusiasm and engagement shown by participants made the excursion a fantastic success, with many leavings inspired and excited to apply their new knowledge in welcoming future visitors to the Larrakia Cultural Centre.

After the strong conversations sparked during Letโ€™s Talk Employment โ€“ Hospitality, Tourism and Retail, the discussion continued last week with the Community & Care Sector workshop in Alice Springs.

What followed was an incredibly engaging session, with employers, workforce partners and community organisations openly sharing challenges, ideas and practical solutions for the future workforce.

A huge thank you to our guest speakers Marli Banks, Michael Hooke, Anthony Lew-Fatt, Brittany Theris and Sally Morris for helping drive meaningful discussion and sharing valuable perspectives from across the sector.

It was encouraging to see so many people actively contributing to conversations around retention, inclusion and sustainable employment pathways for local communities.
