Next week, we’re off to Bicheno for our DSLSC Surf Camp 🌊

Every year, just before the new season kicks off, our returning members head east for the November long weekend.

3 days, 3 nights, and a program that fits in with the ocean.

Think: new surf skills, white sand dunes, and group dinners. We pack in plenty of fun, with the odd snorkelling adventure or a night out spotting little penguins. And when the dates are right (like this year), we even squeeze in some trick or treating 🎃

There’s a reason it’s a club favourite.

The kids keep talking about it all season. So do most of the adults, if I’m being honest 😅

A great turnout for our Juniors Info Night last night, with many returning families and plenty of new faces too.

There was lots of catching up, the usual noise and chaos of kids having fun, and a full spread of dinner deliciousness thanks to our sponsor, Valentino's Devonport 🍕

Our Club President (Heather) and Junior Activities Coordinator (Sam) talked us through what's coming up this season and how to get the most out of surf club (hint: get involved!)

We even caught a little piece of local history, watching the Spirit of Tasmania II sail out of the Mersey for the very last time.

A big thanks to our volunteers who made the evening happen, and to all the families who came along.

SLS members: it’s time to get your skills up to date for the season ahead.

Here’s what’s required for each role:

𝗢𝗻𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆
– Age Managers and Assistants
– Patrol Captains
– Coaches (ASADA online theory, Development and Performance coaches only)

𝗢𝗻𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗼𝗿𝘆 + 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹
– Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC)
– Bronze Medallion
– Advanced Resuscitation Techniques (ART)
– IRB Crew / IRB Driver

⚠️ You MUST complete the online theory before your practical session, otherwise the assessor can’t pass you.

Saturday was magical at the Bluff for a fun pre-season session for our senior members 🌊

It’s one of the best parts of our club... members of all abilities training side by side, picking up tips from each other and having a laugh while they do it.

When you think of surf life saving, you probably picture 🔴 and 🟡 flags and patrols on the sand.

But our training goes well beyond the beach.

A few weeks ago, DSLSC members Amber, Ryan, Oli, and Ben joined other flood rescue-trained members from Ulverstone and Port Sorell for a 𝗙𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗱 & 𝗦𝘄𝗶𝗳𝘁 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗰𝘂𝗲 professional development weekend run by Surf Life Saving Tasmania at Arm River Camp on the Mersey River. They spent the day on the river building their skills, then headed back out after dark for a night search-and-rescue scenario, testing out new lighting equipment.

Thanks to everyone who gave up their weekend to train.

Sunday mornings just got a little more active! 🏃

Our new 𝗗𝗦𝗟𝗦𝗖 𝗥𝘂𝗻 𝗖𝗹𝘂𝗯 kicked off last Sunday. Thanks to the senior members, Nippers, and families who braved the crazy spring weather. And a big shout-out to Derek, who came up with the idea, organised it, and led the session.

It’s a great example of what our members bring to the club for the whole club community to enjoy.
