The Living Knowledge Project: Bridging Cultures through Storytelling

Devonport Library partnered with the local Aboriginal community to present the Living Knowledge Project. The project was a year-long residency program for Tasmanian Aboriginal individuals to share personal journeys through storytelling and integrating oral traditions into libraries.

The quotes we share are from the conversations with residents sharing their personal journeys through the ancient art of yarning and storytelling.

The Living Knowledge Project invites all community members to listen, learn, and engage with the rich mosaic of Tasmanian Aboriginal culture and its people. Together, let us honour the past, celebrate the present, and forge a brighter future built on understanding and respect.

The Race to the Top of the World is an epic work profiling two of the world’s greatest adventurers – George Mallory and Sir Edmund Hillary – and the many others who were involved in their expeditions to conquer Mount Everest.

It will show what brought them both to set out on their dangerous expeditions, the people who supported them and examine the question of who reached the summit first.

National Carers Week started on Sunday 11 October. It's a time to recognise, celebrate and raise awareness of the more than 3 million Australians who provide unpaid care to a family member or friend.

Did you know that carers are able to access the Home Library Service? If you don't have time to make it to the library while providing daily care, volunteer couriers can deliver library books, DVDs and more to you.

Contact your local library to register, or join online: https://bit.ly/4dGfGBq
