Arguably the most famous petition
in Victoria’s history was presented to
parliament in 1891. Known as the ‘Great
Petition’ , it requested the
right to vote for women. Approximately
260 metres long, it contains close to
30,000 signatures written on paper and
pasted on to fabric.
One of the largest petitions received by the
Victorian Parliament, with over 53,000
signatures, called for increased funding
for public libraries. It was presented to the
Legislative Assembly in September 2012.

Linda was a powerhouse of a unionist and a champion of women’s rights at work.
Her work in campaigning for paid domestic violence leave, equal pay for the community sector and in improving the NDIS, and to protect jobs in the Airlines sector has not only changed, but saved lives.
She leaves behind a massive legacy. Thinking of her family, friends, comrades and colleagues.
Vale the wonderful Senator Linda White 💜💜💜

What better way to spend a cold Tuesday in lockdown than by hearing from some inspiring women about their work and ideas for improving our political culture?
Australian politics has faced a reckoning this year, and we know there is much to be done to make politics safer for women - let's talk about what that looks like.
Join Peta Murphy MP, Kate Thwaites MP, Former ASU Assistant National Secretary Linda White and National Union of Students President Zoe Ranganathan to hear about the practical changes required, and to talk about the work that is already being done.
Hosted by Kat Hardy. All women in the party welcome to attend.
