On Monday, SES Manningham brought together members, family and friends for a special awards evening celebrating the dedication, achievements and long service of our volunteers, while also welcoming our new Unit Controller, Alain Doig.
Guests were also treated to a tour of the Unit and a demonstration of our safe working at heights training roof.
We proudly recognised four members for their outstanding service to the Manningham community:
š Grant Whiteside ā 40 Years of Service
Wh**ey has been a stalwart of the Unit and has been our main driver trainer over the years, as well as the trusted manager of all our vehicles. During his time in the Unit, many things have changed, including additional rules to protect both our members and the public. Grant has willingly taken on new challenges within the Unit and is a much-admired member for his knowledge and friendship. In recognition of this mammoth achievement, it was only fitting that our Rescue Truck be named in his honour!
š Paul Ricci ā 20 Years of Service
Paul has been instrumental in keeping our Unit connected, serving as our communications equipment trainer and resident IT guru. From introducing new technologies to supporting members with their technical challenges, Paul brings professionalism, a great sense of humour and a willingness to help whenever needed.
š Grant Young ā National Medal, Recognising 15 Years of Service
Grant received the National Medal in recognition of his 15 years of diligent service to the community. A reliable and trusted team member and leader, Grant regularly steps up as Duty Officer, helping coordinate our response to requests for assistance and ensuring our community receives the support it needs.
š Adrian D'Urbano ā 5 Years of Service
Since joining during COVID, Adrian has become a valued member of the Unit, contributing across training, on-call duties and Unit activities. He has also been instrumental in securing grants that help fund our equipment and support the important work we do for the community.
The evening also marked a leadership transition, with our outgoing Unit Controller, Steve Cuce, handing over the reins to Alain Doig, whose experience and commitment to developing our members put the Unit in great hands for the future.
We thank Steve for his leadership and contribution, congratulate Alain on his new role, and extend our heartfelt thanks to all our award recipients for their years of dedication and service.
Most importantly, thank you to the families and friends who support our volunteers behind the scenes. Nights like these are truly special and provide a wonderful opportunity to recognise the people who make our Unit what it is.
