🚧 Eastern Freeway closed this weekend – plan ahead 🚧

Please note, parts of the Eastern Freeway, and Thompsons Road will be closed this weekend.

• The Eastern Freeway will be closed in both directions between Chandler Highway and Tram Road from 10pm Friday 16 October to 5am Monday 19 October 2026.

• Thompsons Road will also be closed in both directions between Bulleen Road and the outbound Eastern Freeway entry ramp (next to Bulleen Park & Ride).

Crews will be doing major construction work, including laying asphalt and realigning lanes and traffic barriers on the freeway. They’ll also be building a new shared path and laying the foundations for new overhead structures near the entry ramp.

What to expect:
⏱️ Delays of up to 90 minutes are expected, so please plan ahead or avoid the area if you can.

👉 Please allow extra travel time, check your route before leaving, and consider alternative options where possible.

New 6.5km tunnels from Watsonia to Bulleen will link the north east

Preparation for pool hall works at Aquarena Aquatic and Leisure Centre

Ceiling netting will soon be installed in the indoor pool hall to support future renewal works planned for the indoor pool hall.

Aquarena Aquatic and Leisure Centre will continue operating as usual throughout the ceiling netting installation.

For those traveling through Wonga Park out to the Yarra Ranges, the intersection at Edward and Paynes Road will be closed from 6am to 6pm on Wednesday 21 October for the final roundabout works.

🛣️ The new roundabout at Edward and Paynes Road, Chirnside Park improves road safety and reduces the risk of crashes and supports safer and more efficient flow of traffic.

This project was completed and opened ahead of schedule last month, but as previously advised, the roundabout requires one final 12-hour closure for the electricity provider to relocate the power pole and install street lighting.

The intersection will be closed from 6am to 6pm on Wednesday, 21 October, 2026 for these final works.

Emergency service access will be maintained throughout this closure, as will local access to properties and businesses within and near the works area.

For all other traffic, signed detours will be in place and Vic Traffic maps have been updated.

🚧 We're upgrading the pedestrian crossing, street lighting and surfacing at the Donburn Shopping Centre carpark this month. Traffic controllers are onsite to help people move safely through the area.

✅ All shops remain open during construction

🚧 Safer roads are coming to Tindals Road intersections.

We're installing raised safety platforms at:

📍 Harris Gully Road and Tindals Road, Warrandyte
📍 Reynolds Road and Tindals Road, Donvale

The upgrades will help slow traffic and reduce the risk and severity of crashes.

🔹 traffic controllers will be onsite to help keep traffic moving safely.

🔹 access to properties will be maintained, with only minor delays expected.

🔹 some daytime construction noise may occur while works are underway.

Works will be carried out in stages mid October through to November, with Harris Gully Road commencing first.
