Did you know?
NSW Rural Fire Service firefighters are all Volunteers, and we often get called from our homes and jobs?
When you call 000, your call is answered by our friends at Fire and Rescue NSW, after they identify the responsible agency, they send the message across to our Operational Communications Centre (OCC) in Sydney Olympic Park. Once received, our OCC Operators (Firecom) uses a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system to activate the nearest, most appropriate resource to the incident, and sometimes plus some for the right type of job.
At a brigade level, our pagers are activated via an app called RFS ACTIV, and in the first 30 seconds, our members "Thumbs up" if their attending the job, they rush from their work or homes, get to the station, pop their PPE on and once the crew minimums and an Officer/Crew Leader is around, out the door they go!
This all happens in rapid succession, often within 5-10 minutes from the call to a truck rolling out the door. And for a brigade with volunteers, that's a big effort to put bums on seats!
That's where you come in!
Dunmore Brigade is always looking for members to join the team! With the ability to learn new skills, make new friends and get involved in a good cause. Members come from all sides of life, from the younger, older, male or female, corporate or tradie backgrounds - we don't discriminate, and we provide all the training!
If you want to join a service that helps your local community, and those afar, come and join Dunmore Brigade today!
