πŸš’ What a day at the Braidwood Big Wheels Festival! πŸš›

It was fantastic to roll into town for Braidwood's first-ever Big Wheels Festival and line up alongside our mates from Braidwood Rural Fire Service and Majors Creek RFS. A big thanks to the team from NSW RFS - Lake George Communications Brigade for joining us too. They're the voices on the radio keeping us safe on every call πŸ“»

Huge thanks to everyone who came by for a chat, climbed aboard the trucks, or asked about joining the brigade. Watching the kids' faces light up behind the wheel made the day πŸ˜„

Well done to the Braidwood Lions Club on a brilliant event. We hope it becomes a regular on the calendar!

With fire season fast approaching, now's a great time to get your Bush Fire Survival Plan sorted. If you've ever thought about volunteering, come and see us πŸ”₯πŸ‘©β€πŸš’πŸ‘¨β€πŸš’

πŸš’βœ¨ Spit and polish day at Charleyong! βœ¨πŸš’

Today our crew rolled up their sleeves to get the truck looking its absolute best for the Braidwood Big Wheel Show this Saturday! πŸ™Œ

The truck got the full treatment: a thorough wash, followed by a polish until it was gleaming, with a big hand from Nathan, Senior Deputy Captain at Braidwood Rural Fire ServiceceπŸ‘ Every locker was emptied, cleaned out and detailed, and the inside of the cab got a proper going-over too. 🧽🧼

It's not every day the truck gets this much attention, and we reckon it scrubs up pretty well! 😎 Check out the photos below πŸ“Έ

Come down and say g'day at the Big Wheel Show on Saturday. Have a look over the truck, chat with our volunteers, and find out more about what we do in the community. Kids (and big kids!) are more than welcome to check it out πŸš’β€οΈ

A big thank you to everyone who pitched in today, and to Nathan and Braidwood RFS for the help πŸ™

See you Saturday! πŸ‘‹

🚨 Fire Danger Period Starts Today – 1st October 2026 🚨

The Bush Fire Danger Period is now in place for our area. Here's a quick refresher to help you stay safe and prepared this season πŸ‘‡

πŸ“ Fire Permits Are Now Required
From today, you'll need a fire permit for any burning. Apply online and a Fire Permit Officer will be in touch:
πŸ‘‰ https://nswrfsprod.service-now.com/guardian_csp

πŸ”₯ Check the Fire Danger Rating Every Day
Our area falls under the Southern Ranges fire weather area. Check the daily rating and any Total Fire Bans on the Hazards Near Me app or the RFS website:
πŸ‘‰ https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/fire-information/fdr-and-tobans

πŸ“² Set Up Hazards Near Me
If you haven't already, download the app and add a watch zone for your home, and anywhere else you spend time, so you get alerts when it matters.

πŸ—ΊοΈ Make or Review Your Bush Fire Survival Plan
It only takes a few minutes, and it's much easier to do now than when a fire is already on the way:
πŸ‘‰ https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/plan-and-prepare/bush-fire-survival-plan

🏑 Get Your Place Ready
Clean out gutters, keep grass short around the house and sheds, and move woodpiles and anything flammable away from buildings.

Let's look out for each other and have a safe season, Charleyong! πŸ”₯πŸ’ͺ

πŸŽ‰ Big congratulations to Toni, Pete and Naomi, who have just passed their Firefighter (FF) qualification!

All that training, study and hard work has paid off, and we’re stoked to have three more qualified firefighters ready to jump on the truck. It’s members like these who keep our brigade strong and our community safe. πŸ‘πŸš’

Welcome to the crew, Toni, Peter and Naomi β€” well earned! πŸ”₯

Keen to learn new skills, meet great people and give back to your community? Charleyong RFB is always looking for new members β€” no experience needed, just a willingness to learn. Send us a message if you’d like to know more about joining! πŸ“©

πŸš’πŸ“‘ Charleyong RFS is proud that Wade β€” one of our members and Captain of Lake George Communications Brigade β€” is deploying to North America today alongside fellow Communications Brigade member Dan, serving as radio operators for the 2026 wildfire season. Wade is one of three Charleyong members who also carry that dual-membership link to Lake George Communications Brigade. Safe travels to you both, Wade and Dan! πŸ™

Lake George Communications Brigade is proud to share that Captain Wade and brigade member Dan depart today to form up as part of the next wave of Australian firefighters deploying to North America for the 2026 wildfire season.

Wade and Dan will serve as radio operators, deploying through the RFS on behalf of the National Resource Sharing Centre.

Wade is incredibly proud to have another communicator from Lake George join him on this deployment, the two of them representing the brigade together on the other side of the world.

Safe travels to both, and thank you for carrying the Lake George name into this deployment.

πŸš’πŸ“» Training Day: Radio Skills & Operations Command Vehicle πŸ“»πŸš’

Today the crew got stuck into some radio communications training, joined by our mates from NSW RFS - Lake George Communications Brigade β€” thanks for coming out and sharing your knowledge with us! πŸ™Œ

We covered radio skills and got a close-up look at the capabilities of the Operations Command Vehicle (OCV) β€” great to see what this asset can do and how it supports us on the fireground.

Solid day of upskilling for the crew. Thanks to everyone who came along, and a big thanks again to Lake George Comms Brigade for their time and expertise.

πŸ”₯ Pump Training Day πŸ”₯

Charleyong 2 and Charleyong 7 were out today teaching our new recruits pump operations β€” water delivery, drafting, pressure management, and relay water supply setup. Great work all round! πŸ‘

πŸ“± HEADS UP: National Emergency Alert Test β€” Monday 27 July

In one week's time, mobile phones across NSW (and the rest of the country) may buzz with a test message as part of the new AusAlert system rollout.

AusAlert is Australia's new national emergency warning system, set to go live in October 2026. Before it launches, they're testing it nationwide.

πŸ•‘ When: Monday 27 July, 2:00pm AEST
πŸ”Š What to expect: A vibration plus a loud, siren-like sound for about 10 seconds β€” on compatible devices

It's just a test β€” you don't need to do anything. But if the sound might startle you, a family member, or your animals, switch your phone off (or pop it on aeroplane mode) before 2pm, and leave it off for at least an hour afterwards.

In a real emergency, alerts like this could be the thing that gives you those crucial extra minutes to act β€” so it's worth knowing what to expect.

Want to hear what it sounds like beforehand? Head to ausalert.gov.au πŸ”—
