Our crews attended 77 jobs throughout September, with a noticeable increase in bush and grass fires across our local area.

As we move further into the warmer months, conditions are becoming increasingly dry, with grass and vegetation drying out across the area. This means fires can start more easily and spread quickly.

Fire and Rescue NSW, with assistance from the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS), will be conducting a hazard reduction burn at Brooklyn Park, Chisholm Road,

Residents in surrounding areas may notice smoke in the vicinity. If you live nearby, please consider the following precautions:
✅ Keep doors and windows closed to prevent smoke entering your home or workplace.
✅ Move outdoor items such as furniture, trampolines and playground equipment indoors, or cover them where practical. Items that cannot be moved should be hosed down regularly to help prevent ember damage.
✅ Retract plastic or synthetic pool covers to reduce the risk of ember damage.
✅ Remove washing from clotheslines.
✅ Ensure outdoor pets have access to a sheltered area.
✅ If you have asthma or a respiratory condition, reduce outdoor activities. If smoke levels are high and you experience coughing or shortness of breath, use your reliever medication as prescribed or seek medical advice.
✅ If driving near the area, slow down, keep your windows up and turn your headlights on.

⚠️ Never fly drones or Remote Piloted Aircraft near bush fires or hazard reduction burns where firefighting aircraft may be operating. Significant penalties apply.

On Tuesday night, the Acting District Manager along with our Group Officers recognised several members with the Premier’s Emergency Citation for their outstanding service during the major New South Wales floods of 2022–2023.

These floods, which spanned two years, set records for rainfall and flood levels across multiple regions. The dedication and commitment shown by our members during this time has had a lasting impact, deeply resonating within the communities they served.

We are incredibly proud of their efforts and the difference they have made.
