🚴 🚶 If you’re a regular user of the Mitchell Freeway’s Principal Shared Path (PSP) between Leederville and Northbridge, you’ll notice we’ve recently undertaken important works to improve its surface.

We are pleased to say these works have now been completed, making the journey safer and enhancing the experience for riders and walkers.

The path was widened and resurfaced along two sections, with upgrades completed across two stages. Repairs were also undertaken on the PSP ramp connecting to Leederville Parade, and maintenance items such as critical drainage works and repainting were carried out 🛠️

These types of projects are important to our network, as it ensures we are connecting communities and encouraging multiple active travel modes where possible.

Have you ever come across road workers or traffic controllers on your travels?

They work in busy, high-traffic environments to keep our road network moving often with limited protection and in very vulnerable conditions. With a record number of upgrades underway across WA, you’re likely to see more roadwork sites on your journey.

Here’s how you can help keep everyone safe:

➡️ Follow the signs
Roadwork signage is there to guide you, even if you can’t see workers on site.

➡️ Your speed is our safety
Always follow reduced speed limits. They’re in place to protect you and others from hazards like loose stones, changed road layouts and uneven surfaces.

➡️ Stay alert and follow directions
If traffic controllers are present, follow their instructions.

➡️ Slow down and take care
Every worker on our roads deserves to get home safely.

The new Mitchell Freeway Principal Shared Path connection between Civic Place and Telford Crescent is now opened 🚶🚴

The 1.4 km new four-metre-wide-path now forms part of the broader PSP network, improving safety, journey times and connections for people walking, riding and commuting in the area.

The path also features a new pedestrian and cyclist underpass with bespoke artwork under Stephenson Avenue 🛣️

Local Western Australia artists David Ledger & Joanne Clark were inspired by Stirling’s market garden heritage and drew upon their personal connection to the area to develop A Patchwork of Stories.

Take a moment to enjoy the artwork as you pass through the new PSP connection.

The opening of the new active transport link was delivered by the Stephenson Avenue Extension (Phase 2) project, improving connectivity for active transport users and accessibility to public transport.

Some finishing works continue on local shared path connections which will continue to open up in stages.

🚶National Walk Safely to School Day! 🚶

Today is an important reminder to take extra care around schools and help keep young pedestrians safe.

Walking to school helps primary school children build healthy habits while learning important road safety skills.

As children and carers make their way to and from school, please remember to:

🚸 Slow down
👀 Stay alert
🚗 Expect delays
🛑 Watch for young pedestrians crossing roads

The landscape along Reid Highway continues to change rapidly, with the first Mechanically Stabilised Earth (MSE) wall panels installed for the future bridge on Drumpellier Drive / Daviot Road over Reid Highway 🛣️

A total of 67 panels are being used to construct the abutments. These panels are precast locally in Wangara, before being transported and installed on site.

🌉 The bridge will continue to take shape over winter, with backfill, pier construction and beam installation scheduled in the coming months.

Road Safety Week spotlight: Black Spot Program ⚫🟡

🛣️ Through the Black Spot Program, we’re targeting roads with a proven crash history, as well as locations identified as high-risk, to deliver cost-effective safety improvements where they’re needed most.

🚗 From upgraded intersections and improved signage to safer pedestrian facilities, these works are helping reduce the number and severity of crashes across Western Australia.

Great progress is being made on the new Fremantle Traffic Bridge, with the first concrete deck pour successfully completed earlier this month 🌉

In less than four hours, around 120 cubic metres of concrete was placed between the towers on the northern side of the bridge. Roughly 20 truckloads worth!

Bridge beam installation and finishing works are progressing well, while deck construction continues alongside. This includes installing steel reinforcement over the bridge beams, followed by concrete pours to form the deck.

⏩ Next up: deck surfacing works, including the application of prime, seal, and asphalt.
