But it’s easy to prepare.
Clear your gutters, trim your garden and know your fire plan.

πŸ”₯ FIRE SEASON IS HERE β€” KNOW THE RULES BEFORE YOU LIGHT UP πŸ”₯

The Bush Fire Danger Period commences 1 September 2026 across the Mid Coast and Port Macquarie Hastings areas.
If you're planning to burn off, please take a couple of minutes to read the information below, understand your responsibilities and follow the rules.
These rules aren't there to make life difficult. They're there to protect you, your neighbours, our community and the firefighters who may otherwise be called to an avoidable incident.
πŸ“‹ APPLY FOR A FIRE PERMIT:
https://nswrfsprod.service-now.com

A permit and a burn notification are not the same thing. Obtaining a permit does not remove your notification requirements.

Please read it, remember it and share it with your neighbours, family and other local landholders.

πŸ”₯ Know the rules. Notify. Prepare. Monitor. Extinguish. Burn safely.

πŸ”΄ IF IT’S FLOODED, FORGET IT! πŸ”΄

As the current wet weather continues, our brigade is pleading with all drivers: do not drive through floodwaters, and do not cross bridges with water flowing over them.
When you make the choice to drive into water, you aren’t just taking a gamble - you are putting your life, and the lives of everyone in the car with you, in immediate danger.
Before pressing the accelerator, consider the hidden risks:
❌ Depth is deceptive: Even shallow-looking water can cause a vehicle to lose traction, stall, or be swept away.
❌ Hidden hazards: Submerged logs, boulders, and debris can cause significant damage or trap a vehicle.
❌ Structural damage: Floodwaters frequently wash away road surfaces and undermine the integrity of bridges. Driving into water may mean plunging into a hidden drop-off where the road no longer exists.
Consider the impact on volunteers. When drivers become stranded, local brigade members leave their families to perform rescues. Every flood rescue operation places volunteers at significant risk in highly dangerous and unpredictable conditions.
No destination is worth a life. Turn around, find an alternate route, or wait for the water to recede.
πŸ‘‰ Stay updated on local road closures via Live Traffic NSW, Download Hazards Near me app and track weather warnings on the Bureau of Meteorology app or website.
πŸ‘‰ For emergency storm and flood assistance, call the SES on 132 500. In a life-threatening emergency, call Triple Zero (000)

From Wednesday 01 April 2026, fire permits will no longer be required in the Mid Coast.
Residents should remain cautious when undertaking burn-offs, even once the Bush Fire Danger Period has finished.
Where permits are no longer needed, residents must still notify their neighbours and the local fire authority at least 24 hours before lighting a fire, which can be done easily on the RFS website.
People should also check whether a Bush Fire Hazard Reduction Certificate is required and ensure they have the equipment and resources needed to safely manage the burn.
- Letting fire authorities know about planned burning helps avoid unnecessary callouts for local firefighters.

Residents planning to burn off can notify their local brigade using the online burn notification tool at www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/notify
