A busy day for SES Emerald Unit assisting Ambulance Victoria 🚑

Our day began with a request to assist a patient on the 1000 Steps. Thankfully, the patient was able to walk out safely before our assistance was required.

Later, crews responded to another rescue near the Micawber Tavern in Belgrave, where a hiker had sustained a minor injury on a steep and slippery track. What would normally have been a relatively straightforward job became a challenging rescue because of the difficult terrain.

A big thank you to the steep-angle rescue teams from Monbulk Fire & Rescue (CFA) and Wandin Fire Brigade, who helped our crew safely navigate the terrain and manage the rescue for both the patient and responders.

We also greatly appreciated the additional hands from Belgrave Fire Brigade - CFA, Upwey Fire Brigade - CFA and SES Knox Unit. Rescues like this require plenty of people to safely move a patient through difficult terrain. Thank you also to Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria for their support throughout the incident.

Special thanks to the Micawber Tavern for keeping everyone going with some very welcome hot chips after a challenging descent! 🍟

Another great example of our local emergency services working together to support the community.

❤️ Another lifesaving defibrillator for our Emerald community! ❤️

We’re pleased to share that a new 24-hour accessible defibrillator (AED) has been installed externally at the Emerald SES facility – providing another important lifesaving resource for our local community.

💙💛 The Rotary Club of Emerald & District is proud to have funded the installation of this unit as part of the community defibrillator program initiated by the Emerald Ambulance Auxiliary.

When someone suffers a cardiac arrest, every minute matters. Having a defibrillator nearby – and using it quickly – can make a critical difference to a person’s chance of survival while emergency services are on their way.

If you witness a cardiac emergency:
📞 Call Triple Zero (000) immediately
❤️ Locate the nearest defibrillator
🔊 Turn it on and simply follow its spoken instructions – the AED will guide you through what to do.

The new unit at Emerald SES is externally mounted and accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

It’s another example of local organisations working together to help make Emerald a safer and more prepared community.

📍 To find community defibrillator locations, call Triple Zero in an emergency or visit the GoodSAM website.

You never know when knowing where your nearest AED is could help save a life. ❤️

A strong cold front is expected to move across Victoria this weekend, with the worst conditions forecast from Sunday into Monday, bringing widespread rain, strong winds and the potential for localised flooding.

VICSES is urging Victorians to prepare now by:

• Securing loose outdoor items.
• Clearing gutters and drains.
• Staying up to date with the latest forecasts and warnings through the VicEmergency app.
• Avoiding unnecessary travel during severe weather where possible.

Those travelling to the alpine region should remain vigilant as conditions can change. Download the VicEmergency app and set up a Watch Zone for your destination to receive the latest info.

For emergency assistance due to storms or floods, call SES on 132 500.
