We took a range of books from our library stock down to browse through at the Mental Health Pop up Cafe last week. Here are some more options through Story Box Library, free access with your library membership.

🧠 WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY 🧠

Today, 10 October, is World Mental Health Day.

Books can be such a beautiful starting point for conversations about the things that aren’t always easy to put into words.

For young readers, stories can create space to explore big feelings, build empathy, develop resilience and, perhaps most importantly, remind them that they’re not alone.

This year’s World Mental Health Day theme, ‘Lived experiences heard: real voices, real change’, reminds us just how important it is to listen to and value people’s experiences.

At StoryBox Hub, our library is filled with stories that can help children explore emotions and experiences including anxiety, worry, courage, friendship, belonging, self-confidence, resilience and wellbeing.

For teachers, librarians and families, these stories can be a gentle way to begin meaningful conversations, make space for feelings and help young people better understand themselves and others.

Explore our collection and discover a story to start a conversation today 💬 🧠 📖

A week ago Esperance Library was at the Esperance community Mental Health Week Pop Up cafe.
Thanks to all the families who came down and created a play dough feelings face, read a story with Whaarli from Paint Esperance REaD, coloured and folded a Calm Down booklet, or grabbed one of the new Better Beginnings boxes of books for babies or kids aged 1-4.
We will be continuing with this theme when Storytime resumes on Thursday October 22nd at the new location of Esperance Library on Black Street.

Hope to see you there!

🎡 We're making way for Show week! 🎡 Esperance Show preparations are well underway, which means things will be a little busy around the Stadium precinct.

🚗 If you're visiting between Monday 12 October and Wednesday at noon, please use the nearby parking at the BOILC, Homecare Services or Bowls Club and walk through the gates opposite the BOILC to access the Library. Once you are through the gates, please stick to the footpath as this is the safest way to be out of the path of moving vehicles setting up for the show.

📚 The Library will be closing from 12 noon on Wednesday 14 October, and will reopen on Monday 19 October at 10am.

👋 We'll still have a small team on site behind the scenes while we're closed, keeping the wheels turning and getting ready to welcome you back after the Show.

Thanks for your patience while we make way for Show week! 🎡🎠✨

Discover the Noongar Seasons

The changing seasons will come to life these school holidays when acclaimed Noongar author Ebony Froome visits for a free event on Thursday 1 October at 10.30am in the café/foyer area of the Indoor Sports Stadium.

Reading from her award-winning picture book Djinang Bonar: Seeing Seasons, Ebony will guide young readers through the six seasons of the Noongar calendar, exploring how plants, animals and weather can help us understand and connect with the world around us.

The story introduces Noongar language and culture while celebrating the beauty of country through the changing rhythms of nature.

Guests will also be among the first to hear about Ebony's newest picture book, I Call the Ocean Wardan, and learn more about her passion for sharing Noongar stories, language and culture with the next generation.

The event is free and suitable for children and families.

All welcome, to reserve a place, RSVP to the Esperance Library on 9083 1500 or email [email protected]
