PLAY READING – What’s that? Our tutor explains:
Many people ask “What happens in Play Reading?” Is there more to it than just sitting and reading?
Think again. Reading a character calls for our class members to use their knowledge & imagination to bring to life their character as they read. It is a lot of fun. It is anything but passive sitting. We try to imagine how the play would be performed on the stage or the actual situation in a real-life drama. After the play is read, we have a short discussion about the issues in the play, the personalities of the characters and the social conditions influencing the playwright at the time of writing. It’s an enjoyable time for all of us.

WHAT CAN YOU GROW? - The U3A Garden Gurus (a.k.a Gardening Group) enjoyed a wonderful catch-up at Poynton’s Nursery last Tuesday. They managed to dodge the showers and enjoy snippets of sunshine as they wandered amongst the vast array of greenery. Of course, plant and gardening purchases were made. They also enjoyed a lovely lunch at the cafe where conversations around gardening and lots of other chit chat flowed. Overall, a very successful outing for all.
There are spaces for more people to join! The group meets on Tuesdays from 12pm at the Avondale Heights Learning Centre.

Our Cyber Security course wrapped up today, and what a worthwhile experience it turned out to be. It was incredibly informative, genuinely eye-opening, and gave us a much better understanding of the kinds of scams and online threats that are out there (some far more creative than we expected!).
More importantly, the course helped build our confidence in recognising suspicious activity, thinking twice before clicking “that” link, and knowing the simple but effective steps we can take to protect ourselves online. We’re leaving with sharper awareness, practical skills, and probably a healthy new distrust of unexpected emails promising prizes we never entered to win!
A big thank you to Richard Whybrow for delivering such an engaging and valuable course — we’ve all come away a little wiser, a little safer, and much more cyber-aware.
Attached are some handouts given to us during the course.
