Our celebrations for National Volunteers Week continued yesterday with another very special afternoon dedicated to the incredible people who help make our communities stronger every single day 💛

The Yarra Neighbourhood House Network came together for a beautiful afternoon tea hosted by Fitzroy Neighbourhood House, with the room filled with volunteers from Neighbourhood Houses right across Yarra. It was such a lovely opportunity to connect, celebrate and recognise the enormous contribution volunteers make to our communities.

From offering their time and skills, to creating welcoming spaces, supporting programs, sharing knowledge, lending a hand at events and simply showing up for others — volunteers are at the heart of Neighbourhood Houses. Their care, generosity and community spirit help create places where people feel connected, supported and welcomed.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended, and especially to@fitzroyneighbourhoodhouse for hosting such a warm and wonderful afternoon.

Special thanks as well to Kathy Vrettas from , along with Cr Ken Gomez () and Cr Sarah McKenzie (.mckenzie.richmond), for attending the event and for their continued support of Neighbourhood Houses and the important role they play within our communities.

Neighbourhood Houses thrive because of people coming together to support one another, and this week has been a beautiful reminder of just how powerful community, connection and volunteering can be 🏡💛

This week we’re celebrating the absolute legends that keep communities like ours going… VOLUNTEERS 💛✨

Today we kicked off National Volunteers Week with a gorgeous afternoon tea at the beautiful Studley Park Boathouse and spent some time celebrating some of the incredible humans who make Holden Street what it is.

To say our volunteers do a lot is the understatement of the century. Our community thrives because these amazing people are always ready to roll up their sleeves.

Whether they are:

🌱 Facilitating our fantastic community programs

🤝 Offering free, vital supports to neighbours in need

🍎 Packing and distributing our food relief initiatives

🧁 Baking delicious treats for our community morning teas

🎟️ Powering our fundraising efforts

🌭 Turning sausages like absolute pros at our Bunnings BBQs

📊 Guiding us forward as members of our Committee of Governance

🍂 ...or simply sweeping up the autumn leaves to keep our House beautiful!

And honestly? The impact they make cannot be overstated. 💛

To every single Holden Street volunteer- THANK YOU. Thank you for your time, your care, your generosity, your energy, your kindness and your belief in community. You help make Holden Street a place where people feel welcomed, supported and connected.

The truth is, Neighbourhood Houses across Victoria rely heavily on the generosity of volunteers to keep our doors open and accessible. With ongoing funding challenges, houses like ours are facing increasing pressure every year. Without our volunteers, we simply couldn't survive. They aren't just helping out; they are keeping our community connected and supported when it matters most.

So this week, if you know a volunteer- give them a big thank you. They truly help make the world a better place. 💛🏡
