Strong Together: Empowering CALD Girls and Mothers 🌿
The Multicultural Sudanese Centre proudly delivered a successful three-day camp, bringing together girls and mothers from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds in Flemington and Ascot Vale.
Through creative arts, wellbeing sessions, cultural storytelling, and outdoor activities, participants strengthened family connections while building confidence and resilience in a safe and inclusive environment.
This intergenerational initiative supported 40 participants and was made possible through the dedication of volunteers and the support of community partners—promoting social inclusion and empowering families across Moonee Valley.
We sincerely thank Moonee Valley City Council for their invaluable support in making this initiative possible.

Moonee Valley Community Ramadan Iftar – A Beautiful Evening of Unity
On Friday 6 March 2026, the Multicultural Sudanese Centre proudly hosted the Moonee Valley Community Ramadan Iftar at the Djerring Flemington Hub.
The event welcomed more than 120 guests, including families, children, neighbours, African community leaders, members of Moonee Valley City Council, and representatives from Victoria Police. It was a wonderful evening that celebrated the spirit of Ramadan—bringing people together in friendship, respect, and community.
A special thank you to the twelve young mothers who volunteered in the kitchen and prepared delicious food for everyone to share. Their generosity truly reflected the spirit of Ramadan. We also thank our dedicated volunteers who helped set up the venue and supported the event throughout the evening.
The program included an inspiring talk from Omnia Abass about the values of Ramadan, followed by encouraging remarks from Dr. Rose Iser, Mayor of Moonee Valley City Council, and Cr. Phil, who reaffirmed their strong support for the Flemington community.
The Multicultural Sudanese Centre sincerely appreciates the ongoing support of the Moonee Valley City Council and the commitment of Dr. Rose Iser to the wellbeing of local residents.
Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the evening a meaningful celebration of community, cultural diversity, and shared values.
Ramadan Mubarak to all.

Through this project, we aim to strengthen local partnerships, upskill volunteers, and increase access to culturally appropriate food for our community. Key initiatives include Building Strong Teams: Volunteer Roles & Responsibilities (Short Training Program) and Empowering Through Knowledge: Participant Food Education & Awareness Campaign, which will support both volunteers and community members with practical skills and knowledge.
We warmly invite community members, neighbours, local volunteers, and partner organisations in Flemington, Ascot Vale, and Sunshine to contact us and register their interest in participating in our upcoming short training courses and project activities.
