🚔 ILLEGALLY MODIFIED BIKES DETECTED 🚔
Today, Westgate Highway Patrol intercepted two young riders operating illegally modified mountain bikes on public roads.
One bike had been converted to electric power, while the other was fitted with a combustion engine. While officers acknowledged the impressive mechanical effort involved, these vehicles are not designed or approved for use on our roads.
On this occasion, both riders were issued official warnings, and their parents were relieved to avoid fines that could have exceeded $2,000.
⚠️ A reminder that riders who attempt to evade police may face significant penalties, including significant fines, vehicle impoundment or crushing.
Our concern is safety. Modified bicycles can reach speeds and operate in ways they were never designed for, increasing the risk of serious injury to riders and other road users.
Parents, guardians and friends - please keep an eye on the vehicles young people are riding and ensure they understand the road rules before heading out.
We would much rather have a conversation today than deliver bad news tomorrow.

“Gone in 60 Seconds? Try Gone in 60 Minutes.” 🚔⚡
Last night, Westgate Highway Patrol managed a clean sweep of probationary licences - all three were gone within an hour. None of them made it home fully licensed. ⛔️🤦♂️
• P1 clocked at 101 km/h in a 60 zone, no P plates, then ran a yellow right in front of HWP. Four months into their licence and already acting like road rules are a suggestion, not a requirement.
• P1 doing 90 km/h in a 60 zone on a late-night dessert run to Pacific Werribee. 🍰 (because clearly the laws of traffic don’t apply when cheesecake is involved)
• P2 recorded at 133 km/h in a 70 zone, overtaking a marked HWP vehicle, and when asked why: “just coz.” (bold strategy… yeah nah, didn’t quite land)
All three are now facing significant times off the road and a new membership to the “relying on mum, dad, and public transport/Myki life” 👨👩👧👦🚌💳
Turns out the fastest thing last night wasn’t the cars - it was the suspension paperwork. 📄💨

👀 Should’ve gone to Specsavers before going for the darkest tint package 😎🚓
Today at about 11:30am, a 27-year-old Tarneit man decided it was a great idea to perform a burnout directly in front of Westgate Highway Patrol 💨🔥
Not content with that, he continued along Leakes Rd at 100km/h in an 80km/h zone 🚗💨
But the real head-scratcher came moments later when he performed ANOTHER burnout while turning into Apex Dr, Truganina… directly in front of police again 🤦♂️🚓
At that point we figured maybe he genuinely couldn’t see us 👀
Turns out the vehicle’s front windscreen and side window tint were so dark they could probably block out a solar eclipse 🌑
The vehicle was intercepted shortly afterwards, issued with a defect notice, and impounded for 30 days 📋🚨
Good news though - once the tint comes off, and he explains his reason to a Magistrate, he might finally see clearly now 😅
