National Sorry Day
Today, we acknowledge National Sorry Day. A day to reflect on the mistreatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, particularly the Stolen Generations.
We remember the strength, resilience, and survival of First Nations peoples and recognise the importance of healing, truth-telling, and reconciliation.
National Sorry Day reminds us all of the ongoing journey towards understanding, respect, and a more united future for all Australians. 🖤💛❤️

On behalf of everyone at Orwil Street we'd like to thank our AMAZING Volunteer team for all you do for community! Thanks to everyone who was able to make our lunch on Thursday.
The theme of this year’s Volunteers Week is Your Year to Volunteer.
At our lunch we shared some insights and information on volunteering, from the Volunteering Victoria website.
As volunteers, what you do for your communities, in volunteering your time and expertise is invaluable, you really are the heart of the community and what makes Orwil Street Special for so many people.
The time you give to run workshops, share your energy through reiki, help in reception, maintain our gardens, or helping to govern the organisation, all makes a big difference.
Australians like yourselves continue to volunteer despite rising cost-of-living pressures, competing demands on time, and growing pressure on community services.
Across the country, volunteers are continuing to support the people, organisations, and causes that help communities thrive, like ours.
Throughout Australia, millions of volunteers, yourselves included, continue to support essential services and community organisations including emergency relief, aged care, food support, sport, education, health, environment, and community connection.
You are part of more than 5 million Australians who have volunteered through organisations nationwide, contributing over 618 million hours of support for the community, which is incredible.
So please hear our appreciation for all that you do, and know that your impact is felt, we are grateful for your ongoing support, and you do make a difference in the lives of the people who access Orwil Street Community House.
Thank you 🥰

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Induction Cooking Demonstration last week for Neighbourhood House Week!
We were joined by Ann and Xi from the Asian Australians for Climate Solutions (AAFCS), who cooked up a storm and answered all of our questions about induction cooking and switching from gas to electric appliances!
Thanks to Energy Victoria, NHVIC, Bank Australia and the Victorian State Government for supporting these sessions.

Thank you to all the families that joined us at Orwil Street Community House for our Families Week Event. The theme this year was Every Family, Everywhere and with the support of Shanny from Family Life and Kate from Frankston City Council, we partnered to provide information for our local families. We were joined by Jen and Giuliano from Mission Australia Parent Pathways, along with their fabulous Face Painter; Vicki from HIPPY BSL; Kim from Family Life; Rachel from FCC Libraries and the team at PARC.
Families enjoyed art activities, creating beautiful family portraits. Children had their faces painted. Rachel entertained everyone with her story telling skills, and we ended the day with a BBQ lunch.
