Happy Birthday to us! 41 years and still an important part of our community. 🥳 Thanks for coming in to celebrate with us James Agness MP & Mayor Nathan Shanks - Town of Gawler

On the 16 October 1985, the Gawler Public Library opened for the first time.

Forty-One years later, just as it did on day one, the library on Murray Street continues to be a vibrant, inclusive spaces at the heart of our community, offering access to digital tools and fostering lifelong learning – all for free.

To mark, our Libraries birthday, earlier this morning Mayor Nathan Shanks - Town of Gawler and I headed down to celebrate the occasion with staff.

And if you haven’t got your library card, you are missing out so visit:

From 20 October 2026, the maximum number of holds that can be placed on physical items will change from 30 to 15.
What does this mean for me?
- If you currently have fewer than 15 holds, no action is required.
- If you currently have more than 15 holds, your existing holds will remain in place. You will not be able to place additional holds until your total number of holds falls below 15.
- Suspended holds count towards the hold limit.

We’re really sorry, but we’ve had to cancel our Tiny Tales session this morning! We will put the toys out in the children’s area, so please feel welcome to sit, read, talk and play with your little ones in the library (you can sing too, if you like, we won’t mind!). We will be back next week. Please call the library on 85229213 or chat to our friendly staff if you have any questions.
