🌾 Today we celebrate International Rural Women’s Day!

This year’s theme, “Rural Women Farmers Caring for Mother Nature,” recognises the knowledge, leadership and everyday contributions of rural women in caring for our land, protecting biodiversity and keeping communities thriving.

Today, we celebrate the incredible women who strengthen our rural communities, care for Country and help build a more resilient future.

And what better way to celebrate than by coming together. ✨ Join us in Morawa for our International Rural Women’s Day Dinner Friday the 6th November, a free evening of delicious food, inspiring guest speakers, fun games and great company, celebrating the amazing women who make our rural communities what they are.

We’d love to see you there! 💜

What a wonderful day at the Yalgoo Family Fun Day! 💙

Our new Rural Support Services Officer, Susan, spent the day meeting local families, community members and the Shire of Yalgoo staff, sharing conversations and getting to know the Yalgoo community.

Susan was met with such a warm and friendly welcome, making it a really positive introduction to the community.

Thank you, Shire of Yalgoo , for having Desert Blue Connect at this years Family Fun Day!

This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we’re encouraging you to get familiar with what’s normal for you. 💗

Our Women's Health Nurse, Lisa, has three simple reminders to help you get to know what’s normal for you:

👀 **Look** – get familiar with how your breasts normally look and notice any changes.
🤲 **Feel** – regularly check for anything that feels different, such as a new lump, thickening or change in texture.
🩺 **Speak up** – if you notice a change that’s new or unusual for you, don’t ignore it. Make an appointment with your healthcare provider.

Not sure what you’re looking for or have something you’d like to talk about? Our Women’s Wellness Centre is here to help.

💗 Book an appointment at the Women’s Wellness Centre
💗 And don't forget the Breastscreen WA Bus is in Geraldton until the 12th January, you can contact them on 132050 or book online at https://www.breastscreen.health.wa.gov.au/Appointment/Reserve

Over the last couple of months, Desert Blue Connect has been sparking conversations with the boys and men in their life about what makes a supportive and positive male peer relationship.

Research tells us that supporting men and boys to build healthy, supportive relationships with other males is one action we can take to address the gendered drivers of violence against women, as outlined in the Change the Story framework. This has been the focus of our organisation's Community, Respect & Equality work over the past two months.

We have been amazed by the common themes emerging across generations, from boys as young as 8 through to men in their 80s.

So, what makes a male friendship supportive, positive and meaningful?
We'd love to hear your thoughts.
