🚧 270 metres and counting!

Our Surge Protection Breakwater is taking shape, with construction progressing to 270 meters this week!

In construction terms, that’s known as 270 chainage. It’s a way of measuring distance along a project from a set starting point.

Fun fact! 💡 The term dates back to when surveyors used actual metal chains to measure distances. The tools have changed, but the name has stuck!

So far, crews have placed an impressive 144,000 tonnes of rock to reach this point – around 18% of the total rock needed for the new breakwater.

There’s still plenty of work ahead, but it’s great to see the progress being made on one of the biggest components of our $350 million Geraldton Port Maximisation Project.

Now that's some oversized cargo!🚢

The AAL Fremantle recently arrived at the Port of Geraldton carrying some very impressive cargo destined for the Mt Magnet Wind Farm Project.

On board were wind turbine blades, hubs, tower sections and internal platforms, all requiring some careful planning and specialist equipment to get them from ship to shore.

Shipments like these are a great example of the different types of cargo moving through our port and the important role Geraldton plays in supporting major projects across the Mid West.

And with our port road upgrades now underway, we'll be even better equipped to handle large cargo movements like this in the future. 👏

We were pleased to welcome US Consul General Colleen Altstock to Geraldton Port today as part of her visit to the Mid West.

Our CEO Damian Tully hosted a harbour tour, providing a closer look at port operations, the range of commodities handled for our customers and the major infrastructure projects currently underway.

With construction of the new surge protection breakwater progressing, it was a timely opportunity to discuss how our $350 million Port Maximisation Project will improve reliability and efficiency for farmers, miners and other businesses that rely on the Port.

Thank you to Consul General Altstock for taking the time to visit and learn more about the Port, our customers and the industries driving the Mid West economy.

🚢 Powered by sails. Assisted by bubbles.

When the Baltazar called into Geraldton earlier this month, members of our team had the opportunity to step aboard for a firsthand look at one of the newest vessels operating in our region.

The ship's pristine condition and thoughtfully designed layout were impressive, but it was the technology on board that really stood out.

Designed to improve efficiency at sea, the Baltazar features innovative e-sails that harness wind energy and can add up to two knots of speed. Beneath the waterline, a specialised bubble-jet system creates a layer of air along the hull, helping the vessel glide more efficiently through the water. She is also equipped with dual-fuel engines and can connect directly to shore power while in port, allowing onboard systems to operate quietly without relying on auxiliary generators.

As a versatile vessel operating on international trade routes, the Baltazar will become a familiar visitor to Geraldton.

A big thank you to the crew for their warm hospitality and for giving our team a closer look at the technology shaping the future of shipping. We look forward to welcoming the Baltazar back to port again soon. ⚓👋
