That's the four steps done; Discuss, Prepare, Know, Keep. If you've followed along, you and your place are in good shape. Good on you.
Here's the bit that makes a street safe: check on the people around you. The older couple up the road, the family that just moved in, anyone on their own. A quick “got your fire plan sorted?” goes a long way.
We look out for each other out here. Always have.

Two minutes now saves a scramble later. Save these in your phone today:
• Emergency — 000
• Bush Fire Information Line — 1800 679 737
• Hazards Near Me app (set a watch zone over our area)
• ABC local radio — your emergency broadcaster
Power and phones can drop out in a fire, so don't rely on just one source.

If a fire's ever near, you'll hear one of three alert levels. Knowing them now means no scrambling later:
Advice — a fire's started, no immediate danger, stay informed.
Watch and Act — conditions are changing, start doing your plan.
Emergency Warning — highest level, you may be in danger, act now.
Don't wait for a knock on the door. Set the free Hazards Near Me app to watch our area.

That coloured sign on the way into town is worth a daily glance through summer. Here's what each level's telling you:
Moderate — plan and prepare
High — be ready to act
Extreme — take action now
Catastrophic — leave, for your survival
The higher the rating, the more dangerous a fire would be if one started.
Check it daily at rfs.nsw.gov.au/fdr or check it out at Booral Servo!

On a bit of acreage? 😝 A few extra jobs are worth doing before the season:
• Tanks full and the pump ready to go
• Clear access so a fire truck can actually get in
• Fire breaks along your boundaries
• Fuel and gas stored well clear of the house
• Branches off the power lines
A cleared area slows a fire down and gives the firies room to work.
