🏍️ Motorcycle Safety Month - Macedon Ranges – Operation Safe Tracks

🏍️ Over the past 12 months in the Macedon Ranges there have been 110 Serious Injury Collisions recorded on our roads with 15% of those occurring whilst riders and drivers were undertaking Bushland Recreational Activities such as offroad motorcycle riding and four-wheel driving

🏍️ During the month of October, Macedon Ranges Police Units will be conducting highly visible patrols of our country roads and bush tracks.

🏍️ We will be focusing on motorcycle safety, conducting routine intercepts, licence checks, drug and alcohol testing, roadworthy inspections and ensuring compliance with the conditions of Recreational Registration.

🏍️ If you are heading bush, we will see you out there.

Thinking about buying an electric fat bike?

Fat bikes are easy to spot thanks to their extra-wide tyres, but don't assume every electric fat bike is a legal e-bike.

Some models are capable of speeds and power levels that place them in the motorcycle category.

If that's the case, riders need:

✅ Registration
✅ A motorcycle licence or learner permit
✅ To be 18+

Check the rules before you buy: https://transport.vic.gov.au/road-and-active-transport/active-transport/bicycles/electric-bikes

I just wrapped up my first night shift in the Macedon Ranges.

Up until recently, I’ve been a city-slicker Police officer. I didn’t realise that wild animals literally rule the roads out here!

Over the nightshift, there were numerous calls to emergency services for wildlife near the road. I want to take the opportunity to remind people driving through Macedon Ranges to be mindful of animals who can wander onto the roadways. Please drive to the conditions, especially around dusk and dawn and as I was told by Wildlife Victoria, during fuller moons. These times see an increase in animals moving around when it is easier to look for food at night.

Stay vigilant and be careful!

🚨Crime Prevention Week

🚫 Crime prevention week runs from 12th to 18th October 2026. This provides an opportunity to highlight some work being done behind the scenes in the Macedon area.

🚫 In May of 2026 a working group was established to address increasing crime at the United Service Station in Macedon. The group consists of stakeholders from uHaul, United Petroleum, site owner, site operators and Victoria Police.

🚫 Together the group has explored ways to prevent crime by improving security at the site. Efforts are ongoing and to date several of the proposed improvements have been implemented and are now operational. Although early days a significant impact on the crime trend is being observed.

🚫 To share any concerns or ideas please attend the Macedon Police Station to discuss with Leading Senior Constable WOODS, we’re open every Monday from 8am – 4pm.

🚴Dirty Docker Living up to its reputation🚴

🔸The gravel cycling and running event was full of good times and local hospitality.

🔸Our Lancefield Member was out on course supporting the riders returning from their 141KM loop of the Cobaw Forest and Lancefield area – and definitely not hoping to see a rider fall into the mud as some might have thought… (I'll let the commentors make the jokes about pigs and mud)

🔸We appreciate the support from locals, motorists and participants over the weekend, for a well ran and safe event.

In celebration of World Coffee Day (yes, this is an official awareness day recognised by the UN), we thought we’d share three facts about our favourite brew:

☕ Coffee was first discovered by an Ethiopian goat herder in the 9th century.
☕ Beethoven, like us, was extremely particular about his brew and counted out precisely 60 coffee beans for every single cup (citation required).
☕ You can enjoy a free cup of coffee (or tea 🍵) by attending one of your local Coffee with a Cop events.

‘Coffee with a Cop’ sessions are held regularly by local police and provide the community with an opportunity to sit down with their local police to discuss all things crime prevention, personal safety, careers, and more.

Keep an eye on your local police page to find out when the next event is happening near you.
