Alexandrina Council The Alexandrina region is uniquely positioned in the picturesque Southern Fleurieu Peninsula. Every town, every pocket of the region is unique.

What we call Alexandrina is a great deal more than the sum of its parts. Every place and every person has a story to tell. The Alexandrina Council area comprises of 182,684 hectares. It extends from the north-western side of Lake Alexandrina to the Murray Mouth and the western end of the Coorong - taking in river communities of Langhorne Creek, Milang, Clayton Bay, Goolwa and Hindmarsh Island. It extends along the south coast to Port Elliot, Middleton and inland to Mount Compass, Currency Creek and Strathalbyn. A2040 is our plan to thrive for the next twenty years. Across this period, the community’s vision for Alexandrina to be more liveable, green and connected is addressed in plans with long-term strategic and resourcing requirements.

🦅Bird watching - what can you spot in your own neighbourhood? 👀

As part of Nature Festival, Alexandrina hosted two beginner-friendly bird identification walks this month in Strathalbyn and Chiton.

Participants learned how to adjust their binoculars, sharpen their observation skills and identify local birds with confidence.

The big surprise? Despite both walks taking place in urban areas, we recorded more than 50 bird species combined! 🦜👏 A wonderful reminder of the diversity right on our doorstep.

Would you like to see a new footpath along a section of West Terrace in Strathalbyn? 👀

Council is seeking community feedback on a proposal to construct a new asphalt footpath along:
📍 West Terrace between Ashbourne Road and Coronation Road.

The State Government has committed $300,000 to deliver a new footpath on West Terrace, Strathalbyn.

The proposed footpath would improve pedestrian access between the township centre and sporting precinct and may include two new kerb ramp crossings.

⛈️Rain, then ☀️sunshine means the 🦟 mosquito season is well and truly here. 😕

Some mosquito species can carry serious diseases.

The best way to protect yourself and your family is to avoid mosquito bites.

👖Cover up by wearing long, loose, light-coloured clothing when outdoors.
🦟 Repel mosquitoes by using insect repellent containing DEET, picaridin or PMD on all exposed skin.
🫗 Drain standing water from around your home, as mosquitoes breed in still water.
🪟 Protect your home with mesh screens on windows and doors, and use mosquito netting where needed.

🩺Remember - if you do develop fever, joint pain, fatigue or a rash after being bitten, see your GP.
