Congratulations to the team behind our Nurse Practitioner-led acute myeloid leukaemia outpatient model of care!

Their work has been recognised as a finalist in the Patient Safety First Award at the 2026 NSW Health Awards.

The program enables patients with acute myeloid leukaemia to receive much of their care as outpatients rather than spending extended periods in hospital, meaning more time at home with family and in the community.

It’s another wonderful recognition for the team, with the project also a finalist in the Patient Safety and Experience Award at our Caring for the Coast Awards.

When an emergency happens, teamwork matters.

That’s why our teams recently partnered with NSW Ambulance, NSW Rural Fire Service, Fire and Rescue NSW, VRA Rescue NSW, Delta Electricity and the University of Newcastle for a large-scale emergency simulation at Vales Point Power Station.

The exercise simulated an explosion with multiple casualties, giving teams the chance to practise how they would work together to respond to a major incident.

Our teams recreated an emergency department as part of the simulation, so participants could practise coordinating patient care from the incident scene right through to hospital.

It was a valuable chance to learn together, build stronger connections and better understand how to best work together in a real emergency.

A huge thank you to our staff and partner organisations for making the exercise possible and helping us all be better prepared to keep our community safe.
