This weekend the Brigade held its Annual General Meeting celebrating the achievements of the past year and electing our Officers and Administrators Brigade positions for 2026/27

We would like to congratulate all members elected to positions for the next 12 months and thank those who have served in these roles over the past year. The ongoing success of our Brigade is only possible because of the dedication, commitment and countless hours our members put in both on and off the fireground.

On this occasion some of our firefighters were also recognised for their efforts during the major flood events between 2021 and 2023 and were presented with the NSW Premier’s Flood Emergency Citation medals.

In closing two of our members were also given the Life Membership Award for their Commitment to the brigade giving over 52 years combined service to the RFS.

Do you have some spare time this long weekend, an excellent thing to do would be to check your smoke alarms (or install some if you haven't got any).
The simplest and most essential check is to press and hold the test button on your smoke alarm until you hear a loud, ear-piercing alarm. This confirms that both the battery and the internal circuitry are functioning correctly. If the sound is faint or intermittent, it may indicate dying batteries or a failing unit, even if it hasn’t started chirping yet.
ONLY WORKING SMOKE ALARMS SAVE LIVES.

Grays Point responded to report of tree on fire on Anana Hill trail inside the existing burn area. Fire was extinguished with support of FRNSW

Upskilling our new firefighters to a "Village" this provides essential skills for responding to emergencies .

Grays Point attended two callouts today to reports of smoke from Grays Point hazard reduction. First call with NSWFR and second with NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service

Some smoke sighted and investigated, but ultimately determined no risk or need to extinguish as well within the hazard reduction boundary.

NPWS are asking if everyone can stay steer clear of the burnt area from last weekends hazard reduction and keep off Savilles creek track and the rest of the burn area for the next few days as there are a couple of burnt trees very close to the track that will be getting an arborist assessment in the next day or two before the closure is lifted. The intent is to have everything opened for the weekend.

ROYAL NATIONAL PARK HAZARD REDUCTION: 9/5/2026 - 14/5/2026

NPWS have a planned hazard reduction burn for the Grays point to Savilles creek area this weekend. The burn area is north of Temptation creek fire trail, and closures apply to the area north of Florence Parade and east of Rawson parade trails. West of the tramline will be open. Friday, a couple of members of Grays Point and NSW RFS - Illawong Brigade joined forces with Heathcote Headquarters Rural Fire Brigade - Station 10 and NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service at Goarra hazard reduction

Grays Point currently at Spurs Crescent, Loftus conducting a hazard reduction along with other brigades in the shire
