πŸΎπŸ“š Story Dogs at Greenlands πŸ“šπŸΎ

Our Year 2 students have been loving their special reading sessions with Pip and Mrs Pavey through the wonderful Story Dogs program.

These visits provide such a calm, positive and encouraging environment for our students to practise their reading, build confidence and enjoy sharing books in a relaxed setting.

There is something very special about reading to a friendly four-legged listener, and Pip certainly brings plenty of smiles to our classroom!

A big thank you to Mrs Pavey and Pip for giving their time and helping foster a love of reading in our students. We are very grateful to have you as part of our Greenlands community.

πŸ¦– The Australian Age of Dinosaurs comes to Greenlands! πŸ¦•

This week, each of our classrooms had the opportunity to take part in a fantastic virtual incursion with the Australian Age of Dinosaurs at Winton.

Connecting live through Microsoft Teams, our students explored how scientists use evidence found in the earth to learn about Australia’s prehistoric past. They discovered more about fossils, excavation, palaeontology and the clues that help scientists piece together what life was like millions of years ago.

The presenters were incredibly knowledgeable, engaging and experienced, and our students absolutely loved the opportunity to ask questions, share their thinking and learn from experts in the field.

We may not have been able to fly everyone out to Winton, but this was certainly the next best thing! What a fantastic way to bring real-world science into our classrooms and give our students access to learning experiences beyond Greenlands.

A huge thank you to the team at the Australian Age of Dinosaurs for sharing their knowledge and passion with us. πŸ¦–πŸŒπŸ”Ž

Celebrating Our Support Staff

This week we recognise the incredible support staff who contribute so much to Greenlands State School each and every day.

While not all of our wonderful support staff are pictured, please know that every single one of you is so greatly appreciated. The care, patience, flexibility, humour, hard work and genuine commitment you bring to our school makes such a difference to our students, our staff and our whole school community.

Words don’t always quite capture just how grateful we are. So much of what you do happens quietly, behind the scenes and without fuss, but it certainly does not go unnoticed.

Greenlands is such a special place to work and learn, and that is because of the people within it. We are incredibly fortunate to have such a caring and supportive team around us.

Thank you for all that you do, for the way you support our students and one another, and for helping make Greenlands such a great place to be.

We are very grateful for each and every one of you!

🌱 Greenlands GROW Groups 🌱

Our GROW Groups continue to be a wonderful part of life at Greenlands State School!

GROW stands for Growth, Resilience, Opportunity and Wellbeing β€” and our groups give students the chance to build these skills through fun, hands-on learning experiences beyond the regular classroom.

Students have been taking part in a fantastic range of activities including cooking, sketching, volunteering & community service, outdoor education, gardening, dancing, papier-mΓ’chΓ©, chess and much more. Each group gives students opportunities to try something new, develop practical and creative skills, work with others and discover new interests and strengths.

One of the things we love most about GROW is seeing students from different year levels learning alongside one another, helping each other and building confidence through shared experiences.

There has been plenty of creativity, teamwork, problem-solving, laughter and learning happening across our GROW Groups! πŸŒ±πŸ’™β€οΈ

⚽️ Futsal Schools Cup – Warwick ⚽️

What a fantastic experience for our Greenlands students!

Our Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 mixed teams took to the court at the Futsal Primary Schools Cup in Warwick on Monday, facing some tough competition and giving it their all. We were thrilled to come away with a win for each team and some other very close matches πŸ†

Most importantly, the students had a wonderful time, showed great sportsmanship, supported one another and loved the experience. We’re already looking forward to coming back! ⚽️

A huge thank you to Mrs Bek Stibbard and Mrs Hiscock for organising and managing the teams. Your time, effort and dedication are so appreciated! πŸ’

And of course, thank you to all the parents and families who travelled, cheered from the sidelines and supported our students. Your encouragement means so much and helped make the day such a special one.

Well done, Greenlands! ⚽️
We’ll be back! πŸ™Œ

πŸŒ‹ A Very Special VisitorπŸŒ‹

Today we were lucky enough to have John visit the Year 2/3/4 and share some incredible stories from his experiences exploring active volcanoes in Hawaii to collect lava samples.

John shared his passion and knowledge of volcanic geology, giving students the opportunity to see and handle a fascinating collection of rocks, lava samples and other geological specimens. The students were captivated as they listened to his first-hand experiences and asked lots of curious questions.

To make the visit even more memorable, John kindly left each student with a small rock and a very unusual fossil specimen β€” dinosaur s**t, also known as coprolite! πŸ¦–πŸͺ¨

What a wonderful opportunity for our students to learn from someone with real-world experience and such enthusiasm for geology.

A huge thank you to John for taking the time to visit us and share his knowledge!

What a fantastic day out for our Year 4, 5 and 6 students! πŸ¦–πŸšŒ

Our Brisbane excursion was packed with learning, exploring and plenty of fun. We began at the Queensland Museum Kurilpa, where students put their observation skills to the test with a dinosaur-themed scavenger hunt and explored the many fascinating exhibits.

We then enjoyed a walk along the Brisbane River before stopping at River Green for lunch and a well-earned play. From there, we headed to the QUT Cube for another exciting learning experience, before continuing our walk past the beautiful City Botanic Gardens.

There were lots of steps, lots of questions, lots of discoveries and lots of learning along the way! It was wonderful to see our students so engaged, curious and enthusiastic throughout the day.

A very special thank you to our wonderful parent helpers, Mrs Scerri, Mrs Martin, Mrs Pavey, Mrs King and Mrs O’Brien, as well as Mrs Hiscock. We are so grateful for your support in helping make days like this possible.

A great day out for our 4-5-6 students, with plenty of learning, laughter and memories made!

This week, Greenlands is proudly recognising the wonderful support staff who play such an important part in the life of our school.

Our teacher aides Mrs Butler, Mrs J, Mrs Glas, Mrs Hiscock and Mrs Thompson who bring patience, care and dedication to their work every day, supporting both our students and teachers in countless ways.

We are equally grateful to Mr Kent, our groundsman, for the care he gives our school grounds; Mrs Welke, our cleaner, for the important work she does each day; and our chaplains, Chad and Ruth, for the encouragement, connection and support they provide to students and families.

Behind the scenes, Mrs Burrell in Administration and Ms Blake, our BSM, do an enormous amount to keep our school organised and running smoothly.

Schools are strengthened by the people who give their time, energy and care to support others, and we are very fortunate to have such a dedicated team at Greenlands.

To each of you - thank you. Your contribution is valued, your work makes a genuine difference, and we are very grateful for all that you do for our students, staff and school community.

Thank you to all of our wonderful support staff - we look forward to celebrating you!
