CWA of NSW - Griffith Branch The CWA of NSW Griffith Branch is a voluntary non profit organisation providing a platform and forum for all women within the Griffith City Council area.

We meet on the 2nd Thursday of each month at 6.30pm in our rooms at 129 Banna Avenue. GRIFFITH BRANCH:
Members are dedicated to improving conditions and the welfare of rural women and their families. members are actively involved in Agriculture & Environment, Cultural, International, Land Cookery and Handcrafts at branch, group and state level. The Country Women's Association is non-sectarian and non-party-political; and Griffith Branch welcomes members of all ages. THE COUNTRY WOMEN'S ASSOCIATION OF NSW:
The CWA of NSW was formed in 1922 when country women were fighting isolation and a lack of health facilities. Within the first year, the Association was a unified, resourceful group that was going from strength to strength. The members worked tirelessly to set up baby health care centres, fund bush nurses, build and staff maternity wards, hospitals, schools, rest homes, seaside and mountain holiday cottages - and much more. The women of the CWA have been initiators, fighters and lobbyists. They have made localities into communities by providing social activities and educational, recreational and medical facilities. The aims of the CWA of NSW are:
(a) To bring all women and families together and form a network of support. (b) To provide a forum for the voice of all women in New South Wales and Australian Capital Territory. (c) To improve conditions and welfare of all women and families especially in country areas. (d) To support schemes which enhance the value of country living, especially health and educational facilities. (e) To encourage development in regional areas and to increase the viability of rural communities and the environment. (f) To provide a voice to Government at all levels. (g) To promote International goodwill friendship understanding and tolerance between all people.

Now who doesn’t love scones!!!

There's more than one CWA scone recipe - here's ours.

**CWA of NSW Plain Scones Recipe**
450g plain flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
Salt
1 tablespoon butter, softened
150 ml milk
150 ml water

Preheat oven to 220 degrees Celsius. Lightly flour a baking tray.
Sift flour, baking powder and salt together into a bowl, and then rub in the butter with the tips of the fingers. Using a knife, lightly mix in the milk and water until it forms a smooth dough.
Turn dough out onto a floured board and lightly knead. Roll out to about 1.5cm thick, and then cut into 5cm rounds. Place on the prepared tray and bake for 7-10 minutes.

Now who doesn’t love strawberry 🍓 jam?
Make your own jam and enjoy it on fresh scones.

There's nothing like homemade strawberry jam! Here's our recipe for you to try.

***CWA of NSW Strawberry Jam recipe***

Determine the mass of the fruit after removing the stalks.
Use 750g of sugar to every kilogram of fruit. Add 30ml of lemon juice to every 1.5kg of fruit.

Pack the fruit and sugar in alternate layers in a stainless steel or enamel saucepan. Leave for two hours or overnight.

Put the saucepan on a cool part of the stove. Heat slowly, while stirring occasionally until the sugar has dissolved.

Boil fairly rapidly until the jam is ready. Stir occasionally to prevent burning.

Test a tablespoon or so on a chilled saucer, drawing a finger through the cooled strawberry jam and check whether the line stays clean and the juices don’t come back together. If they do, continue cooking.

Skim off any foam and pour into hot, sterilised jars, seal immediately while still hot.
