📅2026-27 Fire Danger Season dates have been declared for six Fire Ban Districts, with 3 districts starting earlier this year.

With increased bushfire risk expected in the northern parts of South Australia due to elevated fuel loads and curing, the Fire Danger Season will start on 15 October in the Flinders, North East Pastoral and North West Pastoral districts.

Eastern Eyre and West Coast districts will also start on 15 October in line with the 2025-26 Fire Danger Season, followed by Lower Eyre Peninsula on 15 November.

Dates for the remaining districts will be announced in the coming weeks, following further local consultation.

We’re urging all South Australians to take the threat of bushfire seriously by preparing their properties now and reviewing their 5 Minute Bushfire Plans.

Burnoff advice for later today.

A prescribed burn is planned at Kangaroo Creek Reservoir in the Adelaide and Mount Lofty Ranges region on Thursday, 24 September, weather conditions permitting.

The prescribed burn will start at 4:30pm and is likely to be completed by 8:00pm. Flames and smoke may be visible within the burn area for several days.

◾ The area to be burnt is 3 hectares on track 53.
◾ This is a landscape protection burn aimed at reducing fuel hazards along Gorge Road and adjacent communities at Cuddle Creek.
◾Smoke may be visible from Prairie Road and Gorge Road during and after the burn.

National Parks and Wildlife Service South Australia (NPWS) crews will remain on site until safe.

NPWS conducts a statewide program of prescribed burns to reduce the spread and intensity of bushfires, protect communities and enhance biodiversity.

Prescribed burning is just one tool used to reduce fuel loads across strategic areas of public and private land.

Prescribed burns will only be carried out when it is deemed safe to do so and may be cancelled at short notice.

"Building resilience isn’t a one-off effort - it’s an ongoing process. The Strategy is being refreshed for 2026–2030 to keep pace with changing risks, including climate change, evolving community needs, and lessons learned from recent disasters."

As a local community we have the ongoing need to build resilience and we have done this extremely well since the Sampson Flat fire in 2015.

Its time to refresh that Strategy in SA and you can help by completing the survey from SAFECOM below.

The South Australian Fire and Emergency Services Commission (SAFECOM) is the government office that coordinates, supports, and funds the state's main emergency services, ensuring they have the resources needed to keep communities safe.

We made a survey. Don’t leave just yet.

We know surveys aren’t usually the highlight of your day. But this one helps shape how South Australia prepares for, responds to, and recovers from disasters.

The YourSAy survey is now open for the Disaster Resilience Strategy refresh (2026–2030).

AusAlert - National Test to be conducted in SA 1.30pm Monday 27th July 2026

AusAlert is a new national warning system that uses the latest technology to send emergency messages to compatible mobile devices.

It’s a fast and reliable way to help people be informed and better prepared during local and national emergencies.

Do you have a Safety Phone?

If you feel unsafe, or are concerned about your personal safety including in situations of domestic and family violence it is important to consider how emergency alerts may affect you.
Please be aware that the test alert may override silent mode and "Do Not Disturb" settings on some devices, causing an audible notification to sound. If receiving an unexpected alert could affect your safety, please take this into consideration and plan ahead where possible. See the attached images for more information.
