Livviโ€™s Library has been reinstalled at Livviโ€™s Place Inclusive Playground in a new home near the main entrance on Conadilly Street.

The library was removed in July following repeated acts of vandalism โ€“ doors and signage were torn off, books were damaged, and pages were scattered throughout the park daily. Drinks and other items were also thrown over books, destroying them.

Since 2019, more than 300 donated childrenโ€™s books have been placed in the library for local children and families to enjoy. When the library was removed, the shelves were empty.

Thanks to the efforts of the Gunnedah Woodworkers and Council staff, the library has been repaired and placed in a new location, which is more visible to users of the play space and passing pedestrians and traffic. Most of the vandalism has occurred during the day and now that the library is in full view day and night, it is hoped this will deter the vandals who have repeatedly targeted the amenity and provide an incentive for people who witness vandals in the act, to report them.

Livviโ€™s Library was an initiative of Councilโ€™s Access Working Group, designed to provide children with a spontaneous reading resource to value add to the overall play experience.

These vandals have no regard or care for community when they want to destroy amenities designed for families and children with disabilities. Vandalism ultimately costs the ratepayer money - money that could be spent on adding equipment, not repairing it.

Livviโ€™s Place is monitored by CCTV and in future, Council will not hesitate to report the vandals and the surveillance footage to NSW Police to assist with investigations where vandalism occurs.

If you witness any suspicious activity, please contact Gunnedah Police or NSW Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. In an emergency, always call 000. If you come across vandalism in our community, contact Council on (02) 6740 2100. Photos of damage are also helpful to staff and can assist with investigations and repairs.

Council is very disappointed to learn that the cricket wicket at McAndrew Park has been badly damaged.

While Council owns and maintains the park, the wickets are carefully prepared each week by dedicated volunteers from Gunnedah Cricket Club. These volunteers invest significant time and effort to ensure the playing surface is ready for competition.

Damage to sporting infrastructure impacts more than just the playing surface. It affects players, volunteers, families, and the wider community who use and enjoy these facilities.

Council works alongside local sporting clubs to maintain, upgrade, and improve community facilities. Acts of vandalism and misuse divert valuable time and resources away from planned maintenance and future improvements.

Council would like to remind the community that If you come across vandalism in our community, contact Council on (02) 6740 2100. Photos of damage are also helpful to staff and can assist with investigations and repairs.
