Vehicle incidents remain one of the most significant risks in Australian workplaces, accounting for the largest proportion of fatal injuries — 42%, or 79 fatalities annually.
Serious workers’ compensation claims involving vehicle incidents* result in a median 8 weeks of time lost from work and $18,800 in compensation paid.

As a fleet manager or WHS executive, wouldn’t it make sense to equip your drivers with proven defensive driving techniques through a Roadcraft Defensive Driving Course and reduce those odds significantly?

*Safe Work Australia reports workers’ compensation data under the classification “Vehicle incidents and other”.

Has defensive driving ever saved your life — or saved you from a very bad day?

Maybe it was a technique that kicked in when something suddenly went wrong.
Maybe you spotted a hazard earlier, left yourself enough space, avoided a collision, or stayed in control when you otherwise might not have.

We’d love to hear about it.

Was there a moment when something you learned at Roadcraft made the difference?

Tell us what happened in the comments. Your story might just remind another driver why defensive driving training matters.

Advances in vehicle lighting have made modern headlights significantly brighter and whiter than those fitted to older vehicles. Many newer cars now use LED technology, which can produce several times more light output than traditional halogen bulbs.

Research out of the US has found that these headlights are associated with around a 20% reduction in single-vehicle crashes at night.

While brighter headlights may benefit the driver using them, they can also create challenges for other road users, causing discomfort and temporary glare, making it more difficult to judge the road ahead.

The impacts of LED headlights on other road users has not yet been studied in Australia.

How do you find them?

Near misses are terrifying moments, and even more so when you’re towing a caravan or trailer. Sam from Toddler In Tow shared her hair-raising experience with us recently, in all the raw emotion just after the moment, and then more reflectively as she realised her Roadcraft Safe Towing course probably saved their lives!

We’re very glad that everyone is safe, that Sam’s reactions were on point, and that no people or caravans were harmed in the making of this testimonial.

Did you know you don't have to pay the full cost of many Roadcraft courses?

Thanks to generous funding through the Queensland Government's Community Road Safety Grants Scheme, several of our defensive driving courses are subsidised, making evidence-based driver education more accessible for novice drivers.

For drivers under 25, subsidised courses include:

Student Driver Awareness
https://roadcraft.org.au/product/student-driver-awareness/

Learner Driver Course
https://roadcraft.org.au/product/learner-driver-course/

Provisional Driver Course
https://roadcraft.org.au/product/provisional-driver-course/

Whether you've got a learner driver preparing to get their licence, or a P-plater building experience after passing their test, these courses provide practical techniques that go well beyond the minimum licensing requirements.

Explore the courses, and find the one that's right for your needs at www.roadcraft.org.au

Shout out to our Maintenance Officer, Ralf!

You might’ve noticed our bike track has had a bit of a refresh recently. Along with the new shade shed, Ralf has installed new picnic tables and chairs, as well as a complete set of miniaturised road signs.

Ralf has been instrumental in bringing the whole area together, regularly going above and beyond to keep things looking great and working as they should. If there’s something Ralf can’t do, it’s probably not worth doing!

So, if you see him out and about, give him a wave and say thanks. He’s often, quite literally, out-standing in his field.

Now we’re asking for a little support in return.

We are delighted to advise that visiting families can now enjoy, not only our fully fenced bike track, but permanent shade and picnic tables.

We are very grateful for funding from the Gambling Community Benefit Fund for the improvements to our bike track.

While visiting our bike track is free, conditions do apply, and the track may be closed for private functions or training courses. We very much encourage you to check our website - https://roadcraft.org.au/kids-bike-track/ before packing the kids, bikes, and helmets in the car and heading to the track.

An extra 10km/hr can have consequences far greater than the number suggests.
