Morphett Vale Country Fire Service

A busy night for the Morphett Vale Brigade last night.

One of our calls was to Piggott Range Road at Onkaparinga Hills, where a car had been dumped on the side of the road and set alight. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the fire and stopped it spreading to the surrounding vegetation.

Dumping and burning a car puts members and the community at risk, and ties up trucks that may be needed elsewhere. Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Many of the same members were out again this morning, and attending training courses today. Their commitment is what keeps our community safe.

Free bushfire preparedness day this Saturday

Spring is here and fire season is close. This Saturday 10th October, head down to the Marion Bushfire Preparedness Day at the Hallett Cove Netball Club, Oval Road, Hallett Cove, between 10am and 2pm.

It's a hands-on day to learn about fire safety and how to get your home and family ready for a bushfire. Morphett Vale CFS crews will be there alongside Marion Council, Metropolitan Fire Service, Department for Environment and Water, Kaurna Fire and other agencies, so you can ask questions and talk to the people who do this work.

Smokey the Koala will be there for the kids, and there's a Virtual Reality experience to try.

Registration is encouraged: cfs.sa.gov.au/events

Questions? Contact Brad Stonham, Regional Community Engagement Officer, on 0428 114 234 or [email protected]

Know your risk. Make a plan. Act before the day, not on it.

Five of our own took on Melbourne for a good cause 🧗‍♂️🚒

Five Morphett Vale CFS firefighters took part in the Melbourne Firefighter Stair Climb this morning — 28 floors, in full turnout gear and breathing apparatus.

Between them, our climbers raised $4,000 for the cause — a fantastic effort on top of the physical challenge.

The event fell on the 25th anniversary of the September 11 terror attacks, and in keeping with tradition, many of our members also took part in our own local Stair Climb — 110 flights, one for every floor of the World Trade Center, in honour of the 343 firefighters and first responders who lost their lives that day.

Our five representatives did the brigade proud in Melbourne. They've earned a well deserved rest and a celebration tonight — congratulations to all of you.

Very sad to hear of the passing of Morphett Vale Life Member and current Seaford Country Fire Service member, Albert "Bert" Fell.

Bert was a real character, with a genuine passion for serving the community and responding to emergencies. His dedication and commitment to the Country Fire Service cannot be overstated.

He will be sadly missed.

Remembering Albert “Bert” Fell

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our much-loved member and friend, Albert “Bert” Fell.

For more than 50 years, Bert proudly served with the SA Country Fire Service, dedicating countless hours to his brigade, his fellow members, and the community he cared so deeply about.

Bert was one of a kind — a true character who could always be relied upon to bring a smile, share a story, or entertain us with one of his famous siren noises. His kindness, good humour, reliability and unwavering commitment made him a valued member of our CFS family.

While we mourn his passing, we also celebrate the incredible legacy he leaves behind. Generations of members have had the privilege of knowing Bert, working alongside him and calling him a friend.

Thank you, Bert, for more than 50 years of service, friendship and memories. Your contribution to our brigade and community will never be forgotten.

Our deepest condolences are extended to Bert’s family, friends, fellow CFS members and all those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Rest easy, Bert. 🚒❤️

Funeral arrangements will be advised when available.

Training last night included hosting the SA SES - Dog Operations Unit and the Drone specialists from the Metro South State Emergency Service.

Their search dog demonstration gave our members a real appreciation for how these dogs help locate missing and vulnerable people, and it was great to get a real appreciation of the SES drone capability.

Nights like these are what strengthen the relationships between agencies, so when we're called on to work together, we already know each other's capabilities and how to fit them together.

Thanks to the SA SES Dog Operations team and Metro South SES for a great evening.

This ANZAC Day, we remember those who served overseas, as well as those who stood ready to defend our state at home.

During World War II, local men served in the Volunteer Defence Corps, also known as the Morphett Vale Home Guard, as part of the 4th Battalion (SA). They were everyday Australians who trained, prepared, and stood ready to protect their community during uncertain times.

When the war ended, their service didn’t.

Many of these same men went on to form the Morphett Vale Fire Fighting Association, which would later become the Morphett Vale Emergency Fire Service, and then the Morphett Vale Country Fire Service Brigade.

Every ANZAC Day, our volunteers proudly attend the Morphett Vale Dawn Service to pay our respects to all who have served our Country and honour those who came before us.

Lest We Forget.

🚒 A Busy Month for Morphett Vale CFS Volunteers 🚒

It’s been another action-packed month for our brigade, with our volunteers responding to a wide range of incidents and continuing to build their skills through realistic training.

From responding to grass fires and working in challenging terrain, to structural firefighting, our crews have been out there doing what they do best — protecting the community and supporting each other.

Training has also been in full swing, with firefighters honing their techniques in hose-work, breathing apparatus operations, and interior fire attack. These scenarios ensure our members are prepared for whatever comes their way.

Every callout and every training session adds to the experience, capability, and teamwork that makes our brigade strong.

👏 A huge thank you to our dedicated volunteers who give their time, day and night, to keep our community safe.

💛 Supporting Those Who Support Us 💛

At the Morphett Vale CFS Brigade, we’re incredibly lucky to have the backing of such a generous and community-minded group of local businesses.

Every Monday night, our members are treated to a spread of delicious baked goods from the Bakehouse On Collins. For many years now, they’ve been providing end-of-day bakery items that are always a welcome boost during training nights.

We’ve also recently received a fantastic donation from IRONMAN 4X4 Lonsdale who supplied a brand-new fridge for our 34P appliance — a big upgrade that will make a real difference on the fireground.

Last night, our members were surprised with a generous donation of pizzas from Caffe Primo Morphett Vale following our meeting. It was unexpected, hugely appreciated, and definitely well enjoyed by all! 🍕

We’d also like to recognise the incredible work of the CFS Foundation along with Sammie Binns from Limitless Quality Solutions, who coordinated with local businesses to provide hampers full of donated goods to brigades involved in the Deep Creek Fire earlier this year.

👏 Great work to Sammie and the team, and a big thank you to all the businesses who contributed to this project.

Your support means the world to our volunteers and helps keep us going — both on and off the fireground.
