🔲 World Lemur Day 🔲

Today we are highlighting our two Ring-tailed Lemurs Anja & Akondro. These two curious lemurs love investigating their food and getting their daily sweet potato treat.

Ring-tailed Lemurs are classified as "endangered" by the IUCN with threats including habitat loss and hunting.

At Halls Gap Zoo, we help protect this species by being part of the regional breeding program, helping create genetic diversity and securing an insurance population should numbers decline.

Come down and say hello to these adorable primates 👋

🍀🍀 Would you rather Wednesday 🍀🍀

Would you rather have a spotted coat or a fluffy coat?

Species like our Spotted Quoll use spots as camouflage & each individual has unique spots.
In comparison, a Bisons warm coat allows them to withstand extreme cold temperatures as low as -40C

Our keepers caught Kingston playing with some barrel enrichment, and he had to come over tell them all about it!!

Rhinos are surprisingly playful and love being given new enrichment items. Our keepers are always trying to think of creative ways to keep these creatures mentally stimulated and engaged.

Learn all about these curious Rhinos during our encounters at 2:30pm daily & 11am on weekends/school holidays.

🐾 Happy World Wombat Day 🐾

Today we are celebrating one of Australia's most underrated and adorable species - the Wombat!!

Here at Halls Gap Zoo, we house two of the 3 native species; the Bare-nosed Wombat & Southern Hairy-nosed Wombat. All of our wombats have a unique personality and are great ambassadors for their species.

While the Bare-nosed Wombat is listed as "least concern", the Southern Hairy-nosed is listed as "near threatened" due to habitat fragmentation and the introduction of mites that cause sarcoptic mange. We try to help both species by educating our visitors and creating unforgettable memories in our Twilight Tours.

Come down to say hello to our Wombat Crew and learn about their unique species 💜
