SES Hamilton Unit Call 132 500 for flood, storm, tsunami, earthquake and landslide emergencies.

Who we are:
Victoria State Emergency Service (SES) is made up of professional staff and dedicated volunteers from all ages and backgrounds. Their common link is a desire to work as part of a team that gives back to the community they live in. More than 5,500 volunteers from all ages, professions and backgrounds serve in both operational and administrative roles across the state. Every one of our volunteers receives comprehensive training to enable them to respond to emergencies. From road rescue and flood response to community events and logistics, volunteers continually develop and update their skills through the various courses and training programs provided by SES. SES volunteers are supported by approximately 200 full-time staff based in the organisation’s regional headquarters and offices around Victoria, and at Victorian Headquarters in Sturt Street, Southbank. The roles and responsibilities of SES staff members are backed up by a wealth of knowledge and experience in emergency management, education and response.

🏉 AFL Grand Final Long Weekend – Travel Safe! 🚗

As we head into the AFL Grand Final long weekend, many people will be hitting the road and heading away.

If you’re travelling, remember to stop and take a break about every two hours. Stretch your legs, grab a drink and make sure you’re refreshed before continuing your journey.

Fatigue can affect anyone. Plan your trip, allow plenty of time, and if you’re feeling tired, don’t push on.

Enjoy the footy, enjoy the long weekend and, most importantly, arrive safely.

🧡 Stay safe on our roads.

A huge good luck to our dedicated VICSES Hamilton Unit members who are taking on the Melbourne Firefighter Stair Climb tomorrow!

They'll be climbing 28 flights of stairs in full gear, all to raise funds and awareness for a fantastic cause. It's a massive effort, and we couldn't be prouder of their commitment to helping the community, both on and off the job.

From all of us at the Hamilton Unit, we wish you the very best for the climb tomorrow.
Go well!

Our volunteers are always stepping up for the community, and this time, it involves a lot of stairs!

We are incredibly proud of our SES Hamilton Unit members Travis McIntosh, Brooklyn Cunnington, Damon Moritz, and Nathan Dinning, who will be tackling the Melbourne Firefighter Stair Climb this September!

They'll be climbing in full gear to help raise funds for vital cancer research and crisis support, with all proceeds benefiting Lifeline, the Peter MacCallum Cancer Foundation, and the 000Foundation. It's a massive challenge for an amazing cause.

Let's get behind our team and help them reach their fundraising goal! You can show your support and make a donation via their official page below.

Good luck with the training, team! We'll be cheering you on every step of the way.

🧡💛R U OKAY?💛🧡

Today is R U OK? Day, a reminder for all of us to check in with the people in our world.

As volunteers, we look out for our community during storms and floods, and we also look out for each other. A simple conversation can make a world of difference.

Today, we encourage everyone in the Hamilton community to reach out to a friend, family member, or colleague.
Ask the question, and be ready to listen.
You don't need to be an expert to have a conversation that could change a life.

If you or someone you know needs support, confidential help is always available:

Happy Father's Day! 🧡

A special shout-out to all the dads and father figures in our community, especially those within our VICSES family.

Today, we celebrate our volunteers who are fathers—the ones who leave family dinners and weekend plans at a moment's notice when the pager sounds to go and help others.

We also celebrate the fathers, partners, and families who support our members. Your encouragement and understanding make it possible for our volunteers to serve the community.

Thank you for your sacrifice, support, and dedication. We hope you all have a fantastic day.

What you should do:
The Victoria State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* If driving conditions are dangerous, safely pull over away from trees, drains, low-lying areas and floodwater. Avoid travel if possible.
* Stay safe by avoiding dangerous hazards, such as floodwater, mud, debris, damaged roads and fallen trees.
* Be aware - heat, fire or recent storms may make trees unstable and more likely to fall when it's windy or wet.
* Check that loose items, such as outdoor settings, umbrellas and trampolines are safely secured. Move vehicles under cover or away from trees.
* Stay indoors and away from windows.
* If outdoors, move to a safe place indoors. Stay away from trees, drains, gutters, creeks and waterways.
* Stay away from fallen powerlines - always assume they are live.
* Be aware that in fire affected areas, rainfall run-off into waterways may contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks. Heavy rainfall may also increase the potential for landslides and debris across roads.
* Stay informed: Monitor weather warnings, forecasts and river levels at the Bureau of Meteorology website, and warnings through VicEmergency website/app/hotline.
Check https://www.bom.gov.au/weather-and-climate/warnings-and-alerts. Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts or call 1300 659 210. The Bureau and State Emergency Service would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.

The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 5:00 am AEST Saturday.

Last night, we were pleased to welcome a team from Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) to our unit for a specialised training session.

Our volunteers were shown how to set up and operate the advanced air monitoring equipment that we house.

This equipment is a crucial community asset, designed to be deployed during events like bushfires to detect tiny, harmful particles in the air.

This training ensures our members have the skills to provide vital information that helps protect the health of our community when it's needed most. It’s another example of how we work with partner agencies to build safer communities, together.

A big thank you to the EPA team for sharing their time and expertise with us!
