Aberfoyle & Districts Lions Club
City of Onkaparinga

GREAT NEWS!!!

There's a load of anticipation around the Aberfoyle and Districts Lions Club with news about the new Lions Bookshed at Byards Rd Community Centre. After much planning and massive support from Onkaparinga Council, it looks like the new bookshed is coming. Final approval looks likely towards the end of June 2026 (yes very soon) with construction during spring and completion by early summer (yes, 2026).

During construction the old shed will be removed and the Bookshed will operate out of the existing containers with some additional ones.

We are likely to need to call on help from the community as the books in the existing shed will have to be shifted to the new containers and then on completion of the new shed, everything will need to be transferred from the containers to the new shed. Watch this space for further news as the project progresses.

Anyone who is able to give some time and effort to the changeover of books please contact the Club by email to [email protected] .... don't forget to leave your phone number so we can contact you when help is needed.

Horndale Winery has a history stretching back more than a century, shaped by generations who worked this land with care.
Located in the heart of Happy Valley, South Australia, the property has evolved from early farming roots into a boutique winery with deep local character.

Since 1984, the Albrecht family has proudly carried that legacy forward — preserving the heritage buildings, nurturing the vines and keeping the spirit of Horndale alive. Their stewardship ensures the winery’s story continues to grow, one vintage at a time.

A proud past, dedicated custodians and a future rooted in tradition.

8 ways elected members have laid the foundation this term for Onkaparinga to resolve it's debt issues in the future:

✅️Tighter operational spending measures
✅️️ The management of workforce vacancies
✅️ Reviewed the life cycle of infastructure to get more out it
✅️ Fixed the grant program so it can do the most good
✅️ Reviewed underutilised assets that are depreciating and considered how best they might be managed
✅️ Kept CWMS in community hands
✅️ Created the conditions for council to develop future investment opportunities
✅️ Paid attention to commercialisation opportunities which has the ability to grow in years to come.

I have been particularly interested in CWMS, infastructure lifecyles, future investments and commericalisation opportunities.

90% of our revenue comes from rates, this has been the case for years. We need to continue to pursue long term plans to help shift this.
