Today we celebrate the quiet strength, care and dedication of mothers everywhereβ¦ and out here at Tanderra, that includes the mums in the paddock too. ππ€
Thereβs something special about seeing ewes resting peacefully beside their lambs β a reminder that the best things in life are built on care, patience, protection and connection.
From our family at Tanderra Corriedales and Heritage, we would like to wish all mothers, grandmothers, carers and mother figures a very Happy Motherβs Day. Thank you for everything you do, often without recognition, but always with heart.
The farm continues to grow, evolve and move forward, and moments like these remind us why we love what we do.
And hopefully this time next yearβ¦ we can publish a real photo of mums with their lambs. πΎπ

π Tanderra Corriedales & Heritage β Sheep Health Watch π
Oestrus Ovis (Sheep Nasal Bot Fly)
At Tanderra Corriedales and Heritage, sound animal health, welfare and productivity remain central to responsible sheep management.
One seasonal issue producers may occasionally encounter is Oestrus ovis, commonly known as the sheep nasal bot fly.
This parasite can occur in sheep-producing regions of Australia, particularly during warmer and drier periods, where adult flies are more active.
π¬ What Is It?
The adult female nasal bot fly deposits live larvae around the nostrils of sheep. These larvae may move into the nasal passages and sinus cavities where they develop before being expelled to continue their life cycle.
In many cases, infestations are mild. However, higher burdens may cause irritation, stress and reduced comfort.
β οΈ Signs Producers May Notice
Affected sheep may display:
Sneezing or snorting
Head shaking
Irritation when flies are active
Clear or mucoid nasal discharge
Restlessness while grazing
Reduced grazing time
Mild loss of condition if persistent
Severe cases are less common but may warrant veterinary attention.
π Diagnosis
Diagnosis is generally based on:
Seasonal timing and fly activity
Clinical signs within the mob
Veterinary examination where required
Confirmation may involve identifying larvae or further examination by a veterinarian.
π Treatment & Management
Where treatment is considered necessary:
Seek advice from your veterinarian, animal health adviser or sheep consultant
Use only registered products approved for sheep in Australia
Follow all label directions, dose rates, meat withholding periods and wool export intervals
Consider overall parasite management and resistance risks before treatment
Routine blanket treatment of mobs may not always be required and should be based on need.
π‘οΈ Prevention & Good Flock Practice
Strong flock management remains the best defence:
Monitor sheep during warmer months
Reduce stress and maintain nutrition
Avoid unnecessary overcrowding in yards
Observe mobs for changes in behaviour
Quarantine and assess introduced stock where practical
Review seasonal parasite programs with your adviser
π Why It Matters
Unchecked irritation or heavier infestations may contribute to:
Reduced grazing efficiency
Lower weight gain
Stress within affected sheep
Reduced overall thriftiness
For stud and wool enterprises, maintaining comfort and condition supports long-term performance.
π Tanderra Producer Tip
Healthy sheep are built through observation, timing and practical management. Regular paddock checks and prompt action when issues arise often prevent bigger problems later.
Protect welfare. Preserve performance. Produce quality. π

π SA Sheep Expo 2026 β What an Incredible Experience! π
What an unforgettable few days at the SA Sheep Expo 2026. A fantastic event that continues to showcase the future of Australian agriculture through youth development, education, teamwork and passion for the livestock industry.
We were proud to be part of an environment where young people are learning real skills in animal husbandry, presentation, leadership, responsibility and sportsmanship β all while building friendships and confidence that will last a lifetime.
A special highlight was seeing Sophie represent with pride, commitment and determination in the ring. Watching the next generation step forward with confidence is what these events are all about.
The professionalism, organisation and atmosphere across the Expo was first-class, and it was inspiring to see so many families, mentors, volunteers and supporters investing their time into creating opportunities for young handlers.
Events like this remind us that agriculture is more than an industry β it is community, tradition, resilience and future leadership.
π Congratulations to all competitors, organisers, sponsors and families involved.
π Thank you for welcoming everyone and making it such a memorable experience.
π We already look forward to next year.
