We're not into pushing the message to 'Join Us' but the reality is, more members = the jobs get shared around more. We have 4 active & operational Heywood only members. We also have two support role members (not going to call outs and supporting behind the scenes). Then we have a few dual members (πŸ™). Some support roles are also shared with our operational members. If you aren't sure what we do, as operations or support, feel free to reach out, there's never any pressure to join, or do anything you're not keen on. Reach out for a friendly chat via fb messenger and we'll be in contact.

Picture: This is Paul. Genuine. Caring. Always happy to help wherever and whenever he can. Here he is helping a passerby jump start their car when he was having a cuppa at the Bakery the other Saturday.
Congratulations to our newest SES Heywood Unit RCR member, Paul! This gives our unit 5 RCR trained members, which turns into more members able to help our community in their critical time of need.
This training requires 2 weekends of intensive training, theory and practical. Along with regular and continual practice and trainings with the unit and nearby units, to maintain the skills learnt. Showing dedication, persistence and commitment - volunteering for our community.
He did this training in with multiple other members from several other units around the region - thank you all!

So true! If you are near SES Port Fairy Unit or any of the 104 VicSES units, it's a great place to find the old or the new you with an amazing team. We are glad to be neighbours.

WHO WERE YOU BEFORE LIFE GOT SO BUSY?

Before the kids.
Before work took over.
Before weekends became sport, shopping, chores and everything in between.

Maybe you were someone who loved a challenge, meeting new people or trying something different.

Life might be busy, but there’s still room to do something for yourself.

And you don’t have to fit a certain mould to be part of SES.

Some work shifts. Some travel for work. Some have young kids. Some are retired. Some are brand new.

There’s no one way to be a volunteer.

You just need to be willing to give something new a go.

Maybe it’s time to find a little bit of you again ⭐️

A Severe weather warning is in place for Southwest Victoria with damaging winds into Saturday morning.
Please prepare your property, assist vulnerable neighbours, friends and family and take precautions for your travel.
Use VicEmergency and Bureau of Meteorology to stay up to date and stay safe.

** Update: A new warning has been issued. Stay informed: http://www.bom.gov.au/vic/warnings/ **
Severe Weather Warning for damaging winds.

Issued at 10:58 pm Friday, 4 September 2026.

Where:
For people in South West and parts of Central, East Gippsland, North East, West and South Gippsland, Wimmera and North Central Forecast Districts.

Locations which may be affected include Warrnambool, Stawell, Hamilton, Portland, Falls Creek and Edenhope.

When:
Damaging winds to develop in alpine areas from late tonight, extending to central and southwest parts on Saturday morning.

Situation:
A strong cold front will approach Victoria early on Saturday and continue to move east across the state during the day. Ahead of this system northwesterly winds have increased over northeastern ranges this evening, and stronger winds will spread into central and western areas during Saturday morning. Winds will then turn more westerly during Saturday afternoon with the passage of the front.

For the northeast ranges and alpine areas: Damaging north-westerly winds averaging 65 to 75 km/h with peak gusts up to 110 km/h are likely from late this evening.

For parts of the Macedon and Central ranges: Damaging north-westerly windsaveraging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts of around 90 km/h are possible from early Saturday morning.

For parts of the southwest: Damaging wind gusts with peak gusts in excess of 90 km/h are possible from Saturday morning, most likely in showers and thunderstorms.

Damaging winds are expected to ease from the Macedon and Central ranges late Saturday morning, from the southwest early Saturday afternoon, and from remaining areas during Saturday evening.

What you should do:
The Victoria State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* If driving conditions are dangerous, safely pull over away from trees, drains, low-lying areas and floodwater. Avoid travel if possible.
* Stay safe by avoiding dangerous hazards, such as floodwater, mud, debris, damaged roads and fallen trees.
* Be aware - heat, fire or recent storms may make trees unstable and more likely to fall when it's windy or wet.
* Check that loose items, such as outdoor settings, umbrellas and trampolines are safely secured. Move vehicles under cover or away from trees.
* Stay indoors and away from windows.
* If outdoors, move to a safe place indoors. Stay away from trees, drains, gutters, creeks and waterways.
* Stay away from fallen powerlines - always assume they are live.
* Be aware that in fire affected areas, rainfall run-off into waterways may contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks. Heavy rainfall may also increase the potential for landslides and debris across roads.
* Stay informed: Monitor weather warnings, forecasts and river levels at the Bureau of Meteorology website, and warnings through VicEmergency website/app/hotline.
Check https://www.bom.gov.au/weather-and-climate/warnings-and-alerts. Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts or call 1300 659 210. The Bureau and State Emergency Service would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.

The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 5:00 am AEST Saturday.

A small act of kindness warmed my heart.

Recently, I stood in line at our local IGA, dressed in orange. Someone in line let me go first, because "if you get the call you need to go and you'd leave without your items".
Such a small act of kindness that was so muchly appreciated.
Thank you. πŸ₯°πŸ’

Today we had our lights and sirens on as we came out of Scott St onto Edgar - vehicles stopped and let us go through.
This makes our job that tiny bit less pressured, as we need to get to the scene as quickly and safely as we can to help our community. Yes, it's the law, but it makes a difference to us, and those that are waiting for us.
Thank you πŸ₯³πŸ’ͺ
