The volunteer committee are moving into the Water Corporation Ventilation Stack Room to set up our new office. As usual when moving offices we have an internet connection issue so will be unable to respond to any research requests or general inquires until further notice. I will alert everybody when we are reconnected.

On July 1,2026 the WA Police Force Museum Team took over management of the 1897 Highgate Hill Police Station facility. Which includes care and maintenance of the decommissioned police vehicles. The Ford Anglia 105e replica 1964 suburban police sedan and the 1980’s Ferret Scout Armoured car are the property of the WAPHS but will remain on display at Highgate.
The WAPHS are relocating their office into the 1941 WaterCorporation Ventilation Stack meeting room in early October after the new furniture arrives. Once settled in the volunteer committee members and ex officio members will concentrate on the new website and a number of interesting research projects.

Just recently Rosalie Agnew a great, great granddaughter of Constable Walter Gee who was murdered during the 1863 failed Sholl expedition to Camden Sound in the Remote Kimberley. Visited Sheep Island where Constable Gee is buried alongside Native Police Assistant Jimba who died of illness some time before. The WAPHS had a special memorial plate made in recognition. Which Rosalie has now affixed to the Boabab Tree underneath the original plate she had arranged in 1985 whilst she was working at Koolan Island.

Some sad news. Immediate past WAPHS President and Life Member Dave Mac Donald passed away early this morning at Armadale hospital close family by his side. Dave together with his brother in law Bob Waterhouse did some great work at the Highgate facility, modernising the kitchen and creating excellent display cabinets. Dave was instrumental in the East Perth Cemetery project recognising police officers who are buried there pre 1920. And from 2022 to 2024 after he left the committee, liaising on behalf of the WAPHS with Norton Gold in Kalgoorlie creating a new and most informative memorial for Pitman and Walsh. Sincere condolences to Marie and all of Dave’s family. RIP Dave.

In addition to artefacts, books, medals, uniforms, from passed WA Police Officer sources, the WA Police Historical Society of tens receives items of interest from inter state and occasionally overseas. Once such collection of items came from Richard Cade who came to WA with his Lovely wife Grace from Kenya, where in 1950 he served in the Military and Kenya Police. Attached is a photo of his collection. Sadly Richard and Grace have both passed on.

Prior to being appointed Officer in Charge of the 1897 Highgate Hill Police Station Sergeant Alexander Mark had been Officer in Charge at Pinjarra. The history of his time there with his wonderfull wife Lidia, who produced a marvellous painting of the station and court house in the 1920’s can be found at the brilliant Murray Districts Historical Society Museum, Edenvale, Henry St. Pinjarra. Well worth a visitor. Well done to the volunteers who have set up a marvellous. Collection. Follow with tea and scones at Edenvale, lunch at the Exchange Hotel or a pie from the Bakery.

The clanking of the cell door. You leave High school, smart enough, but a typical adolescent rebel. Good footy player with a short temper, which lands you in a cell at a small Wheatbelt police station. You find a small rusty nail on the floor and remembering what a teacher once said scratch a story onto a lower cross brace of the timber door. Sleep it off. Hearty breakfast provided by the sergeant’s wife, then front the local JP’s in the morning. Lesson learnt. That story can be found along with other ditties, poems and price of a flagon on the restored door at the WAPHS Cell door project area Highgate.
