If “Parents are the first educators.” Then give them the lesson content.
A Year 10 s*xuality education letter asks parents to decide whether to opt out, but:
• the opt-out email address is blank
• the deadline is blank
• “critique societal portrayals of gender” is never defined
• no lesson materials or resources are listed
• it’s dated 16 October for classes starting this week (tomorrow infact)
If a program is worth teaching, it’s worth showing. Parents shouldn’t have to guess what their 15-year-olds will be taught, or chase the school for a form that was never completed.
This isn’t about attacking anyone’s faith. It’s about whether parents can make an informed decision.
If you’re a parent, ask your school for:
1. the full lesson materials and resources
2. the definitions of s*x and gender the program uses
3. a clear opt-out address and deadline
4. confirmation of who will be teaching it. Is it a third party or a teacher at school?
Share this with other parents who should be asking the same questions.
