Thanks to funding from Westpac, our teams regularly undertake vertical rescue training using funded equipment to maintain and strengthen skills in high-pressure, real-world scenarios.

Recently, that training and equipment were put into practice during a vertical rescue involving teams from Ambulance Tasmania, Tasmania Police and TAS SES - Derwent Valley Unit.

The crews worked seamlessly together, contributing to excellent care and a great patient outcome.

Their support forms part of Westpac’s Rescue Helicopter Month, helping raise awareness and funds for the Service and the lifesaving work our crews do every day.

Each year throughout October we celebrate the anniversary of the Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter Service 🚁🚁

In Tasmania, the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service provides aeromedical and search and rescue services to those in need. It is an integral part of Tasmania’s emergency services and is available to anyone who finds themselves in a critical situation. The service has highly skilled crew members who are called upon to respond to a variety of emergency situations.

Across Tasmania, helicopters provide an essential lifeline, supporting emergency response, aeromedical retrieval, search and rescue and community safety.

Today we acknowledge the skilled and dedicated pilots, air crew, engineers, clinicians and support teams who make these operations possible and ensure Tasmanians receive the care and assistance they need, wherever they are.

The more we train, the better prepared we are when Tasmanians need us most!

If you notice increased helicopter activity during weeknights in August and September, please don't be alarmed. This is part of planned training aboard the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Tasmania

We appreciate this may create some additional noise and thank you for your understanding. These exercises help pilots, aircrew, paramedics and doctors train together for search and rescue missions and other critical incidents.
