Carers Tasmania and Care2Serve are proud to announce the second of two winners of our inaugural Carers at Work: Tasmanian Business Award!

COTA (Council On The Ageing) Tasmania is the peak body promoting the rights and interests of older Tasmanians. Many of COTA’s own team are carers, and the organisation has built a workplace where people come first. Flexible working arrangements and generous leave provisions are part of the picture, but it’s the culture that stands out. Staff are encouraged to put family and caring responsibilities first without judgement. Leaders check in regularly, and when life gets complicated they ask, “What can we take off your plate?” This support has helped carers in the team stay in work while being there for the people they care for.

Thank you to COTA Tasmania for supporting carers in their workplace, and congratulations on the Award!

💙 Carers deserve to be seen!

This year’s theme, “Care for a carer: Making carers visible,” reminds us that recognising and supporting carers shouldn’t stop when National Carers Week ends.

To every carer: we see you, we value you, and we celebrate you 💙

Media release - National Carers Week 2026: care for a carer and help make Tasmania’s carers visible

“Many carers don’t see themselves as carers at all. They see themselves as a daughter, a husband, a parent or a friend who is simply doing what needs to be done,” said Carers Tasmania and Care2Serve CEO Dr Samantha Fox.

“When carers are invisible, so is the toll that caring can take on their health, their finances and their relationships, and so is the support that is there for them.”

“Anyone, at any time, can become a carer. This National Carers Week, we are asking every Tasmanian to care for a carer: check in on them, offer a hand, and help them connect with support.”

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Thriving Kids is a new national program supporting children aged 0–8 with developmental delay and/or autism who have low to moderate support needs.

It will help children and families access the right support earlier, where children live, learn and play. Families do not need a diagnosis to access support.

Thriving Kids will offer parenting information, child-development advice, help finding local services, Supported Playgroups, targeted therapeutic supports and Early Childhood Connectors in every region.

Connectors will work with families, health, education, early childhood and community services to make local support easier to find and access.

📅 Services will begin from October 2026 and expand through to 1 January 2028. Thriving Kids complements existing supports, including the NDIS for children with permanent and significant disability.

🩺 For advice, speak with your GP, Child Health and Parenting Service or Early Childhood Inclusion Service.
