Standing water left behind by recent rain has given mosquitoes a head start on breeding season this year.

While no diseases have been detected in traps, here are a few tips to keep yourself safe:

• Wear light-coloured, loose-fitting clothing
• Use repellents while outdoors
• Limit outdoor time while mosquitoes are most active
• Treat stagnant water (such as ponds and bird baths) around your home
• Notify Council of significant mosquito activity.

Thinking of rehoming a pet? Make sure you know the rules before you post online!

In Victoria, it is an offence to advertise a dog or cat for sale, rehoming or giveaway without including both the animal's microchip number and a valid Pet Exchange Register (PER) Source Number.

This applies even if the animal is being given away free to a good home.

If you need to find a new home for your pet, please ensure you:

· Obtain a Source Number from the Victorian Pet Exchange Register. 👉https://per.animalwelfare.vic.gov.au/
· Have the animal microchipped before it is sold or given away.
· Update ownership details with the animal's microchip registry following the transfer of ownership.

Advertising a dog or cat without the required details may result in significant penalties.

If you need support, Council can provide information about rehoming requirements and may be able to refer owners to appropriate support services and animal welfare organisations.

Contact Council on (03) 5382 9777 for information about safe and legal pet rehoming.
