Senator Mehreen Faruqi Labor and the Coalition voted against a Senate Inquiry into the Red Lines package, which the Greens and other crossbenchers introduced this week. The Bill would prevent Australia from sending military parts, trading with, or profiting from, a genocide - but the major parties don’t want any accountability for their complicity in genocide. If Labor claims to stand for human rights, international law and accountability, why refuse to let a community-sponsored bill be properly examined? Write to your MP today and demand an inquiry into the Red Lines bill.

Senator Barbara Pocock When “affordable housing” is set at market rate in a housing crisis where house prices have increased by 400% in the past 3 decades - that is not affordable. Fake “affordable” housing built by private property developers isn’t going to solve the housing crisis. We need a clear definition of affordability that applies across the board and it needs to be tied to people’s incomes. But even more importantly, it’s time for the government to get back in the game of directly building, owning and operating public homes like they used to.

What the f**k is going on with fuel prices in Australia?

For millions of Australians, the price at the bowser means choosing between filling the tank, buying groceries and paying the bills. This isn't an abstract global-market problem. It hits households, businesses, freight and the cost of almost everything.

And here's the frustrating part: politicians were warned. More than a decade ago, the Greens were talking about clean energy, EVs, renewable energy, storage and energy sovereignty. We knew that remaining dependent on fossil fuels would leave Australia exposed to volatile international markets.

Now we're paying for that failure.

A temporary fuel-excise cut might provide some immediate relief, but a tax cut isn't an energy strategy. It doesn't give Australia energy sovereignty or protect us from the next fossil-fuel shock.

Labor and the Coalition have had more than a decade to build the alternative. Instead, we're still trapped in a fossil-fuel system where powerful oil and gas interests have enormous influence over energy policy.

Tax the Gas. Build the renewables. Electrify transport. Build Australian energy sovereignty.

Tax the Gas and bring fuel prices down. We need to Tax Gas Exports Now and use more of the wealth generated from Australia's resources to reduce costs and build the energy system Australians actually need.

The Greens warned about this years ago. Now It's Time. Act Now.

Vanessa Bleyer, Greens Senator for lutruwita/Tasmania I will keep fighting to save the Maugean skate. We cannot let this ancient species that has survived since the time of the dinosaurs be wiped out for the sake of corporate interests and a government unwilling to act. We know from the government’s own published scientific advice that the most imminent threat to the skate is the low oxygen levels caused by industrial-scale salmon farming, and even it rates the consequences for the skate as catastrophic. With this summer’s El Niño setting in, we must act now to save the skate. The federal Labor government must order an immediate end to industrial-scale fish farming in Macquarie Harbour to give the skate a fighting chance to survive the summer. SAVE THE SKATE.

Abigail Boyd People’s power bills are going up while our privatised power infrastructure executives live it large and pull in billions for private shareholders. It’s time to end this rip off privatisation deal, and bring essential services like our poles and wires back into public hands. It’s time to take the power back.

Senator Penny Allman-Payne Last month Townsville locals sat down to talk about a simple idea: How could our community benefit if gas corporations and other multinational corporations actually paid a fair share of tax? While fossil fuel billionaires make record profits, Queenslanders are doing it tougher and tougher. But none of us are facing the cost-of-living crisis alone, and none of us are powerless to do something about it. This government can choose to prioritise the wellbeing of families and communities over the interests of their corporate donors. Want in? Join the campaign to tax Australia’s gas exports and fund the community services and cost-of-living relief our friends and neighbours need. ➡️ taxourgas.com ⬅️

🌍 Mars isn't going to save us. The real challenge may be learning how to live on the planet we already have.

The trailer for How to Live on Earth, presented by Benedict Cumberbatch, asks a deceptively simple question: “How about first we try to figure out how to live on Earth?” How to Live on Earth premieres on YouTube this Sunday, 20 September.

With the planet under enormous pressure, the film asks whether we can rethink everything, work with nature rather than against it, and create a future worth living in.

As the trailer puts it: “This is kind of a blueprint for a future that I want to live in.” That feels like a conversation worth having.
