Junortoun Fire Brigade - CFA Junortoun Fire Brigade - CFA is a volunteer fire and rescue service in the suburbs of Junortoun & Longlea Operate and maintain breathing apparatus.

Junortoun has long rural history dating back to the early settlement of Bendigo. As the population of the area grew it became evident that there was a need for a rural fire brigade to serve the growing population. In response to this need, in 1943 the Junortoun Rural Fire Brigade was formed. The area mainly consisted of rural properties, state forest and a few private residences. The original fire station consisting of a small tin shed was constructed on private land, close to the current site. In 1990 a new fire fire station was built in Popes Road (Current site) to keep pace with the needs of the growing population. Fire fighting vehicles at the time were upgraded to meet the changing risks in the community. Currently we have 43 registered members of which twenty seven are active fire fighters. All our members are trained by qualified CFA personnel with training courses being conducted at the CFA’s Huntly training complex, in house or at other sites as arranged. Brigade membership consists of both female and male volunteers whose skills and qualifications are varied and include:

Minimum skills (all active fire fighters). Drive emergency vehicles under operational conditions. Respond to isolated alarms. Senior first aid. Crew Leadership
Respond to Urban (structure fires)
Hazmat events
Chain saw
Training

Our risk profile is Wildfire with Structure.

Get Fire Ready is here!

As Victoria heads into what is expected to be a heightened fire season, it’s more important than ever for residents and property owners to understand their local fire risk and take steps to prepare.

Have you done any of the steps below?

1. Make a fire plan

2. Prepared your property

3. Downloaded the VicEmergency app

You don't have to live in the bush to be impacted by fire - those who work, travel or holiday in areas with grass and bushland need to be prepared for this summer also.

Having a BBQ with friends is a great way to celebrate the Grand Final 🏉
No matter if you are backing the Dockers or Lions to take the win, we all love a chance to get together and have a snag - while watching our team kick a bag!

This weekend ensure you BBQ safely by;
- Checking hoses and connections for leaks.
- Checking the age and condition of your gas cylinder.
- Removing rubbish, clutter and flammable items from nearby.
- Cleaning grease and fat build up before turning on.

Always watch while cooking and turn the BBQ and gas off when finished.
Take the time to clean off any grease and fat build up when your BBQ has cooled down, so you are ready to safely light it up again next time.

Can you pick the fire dangers in this nursery?

Many of the everyday items we put in our bedrooms - young children included - can pose a fire risk to you and your littlest ones.

Check electrical items, don't overload power boards, have working smoke alarms and keep items that can be a risk away from the little hands in your house.

Young children aged between 0-4 are at high risk of home fire fatalities,

burn and scald injuries due to fires and fire play in the home. CFA and FRV recommend that you put smoke alarms in all sleeping areas, especially the areas of one of our most high-risk age groups, children under the age of 10.

If you have young children or close the door for them to sleep, make sure to put smoke alarms in to them and check regularly that they are working.
